I suggest retiring the old HX1050w and finding a more modern HX1000i which is more efficient and more easily provisioned with the cables you need No cables for the HXw are available as they are over 10 years old now.

AX1600i is not discontinued its simply snapped up as new stock arrives. I have also seen the AX1500i on exhibit occasionally. Even my PSU is still made as it also is a quality unit Quality does not go out of style so fast

I found no real value to the extra 4-pin port. The 8-pin cable can provide upwards of 350W so its plenty for 99% of gaming enthusiasts. Make sure the video card cables are all in good condition.

The HX cables are compatible with RM, AXi RMi, RMx and new AX series PSUs I have accumulated a lot of cables from power supplies in the shop. I have tested pig-tail PCIe cables on power pig video cards, they work fine. I was testing some video cards and my RM650 was able to handle more load than you realize as I then added a second card and it did not choke. It was hot but the chassis has fans galore. I have come to like Corsair as they can take a licking and keep on ticking.

Long ago I did some testing of various wires with a adjustable power supply I built. What i found was generally as the current rose the insulating coating tends to release noticeable fragrances before the wire becomes incandescent. Plastic insulation tends to melt too adding to the stench. Any point of resistance will likely show up on the IR camera fast. I checked my last build close to be sure I did not screw it up with cabling and even checked USB wires to be sure they were not hot with BCC 1.2 active. BCC 1.2 calls for 5A of current at the USB port which is an issue for PSUs which tend to lack adequate 5V power for use as a charger. USB cards with a molex or SATA power connector are stupid. modern BD drives are not very long like the old CD-ROM of old check the specs for the chassis and see if the drawings show radiator fittings my box has so much room a 360mm radiator fits and the BD drive squeezes in too

check for a BIOS update for your motherboard, there may be a beta out which most likely will fix some of the problems I had issues with M.2 SSD as well due to BIOS bugs

zero fan features are now more common with power supplies and even video cards are in on it now

it seems that higher rated corsair power supplies have been snapped up by coin miners which makes it hard for a gamer to install just any old power pig video card. best non scalper i could find was the RM (2019) series and I was able to get a 650W unit which I use in secondary box setup for video conversion mostly AX1600i is unavailable

I was testing some video cards and one of the cards was a R9 Fury which is a real power pig. I must say this RM650 does not seem to care if you want to run 2 cards it POSTed and got into windows even with a load it did not choke The RM650 is invinceable

occasionally pieces of packing material can get into places you do not want but I have not seen many IOC cable problems over the eons since the PC surfaced back in 1981
