Q: What is DDR5, and why do I need it?
A: Since DDR4 hit the market just a bit over six years ago, a lot has changed in processing power. Continuous technological advancements and increasing core counts on CPUs have pushed for the development of DDR5 which promises to deliver performance improvements when current memory bandwidths are unable to keep up.

Q: Can DDR5 fit in a DDR4 slot?      
A: DDR5 will not fit in a DDR4 slot. Although both DDR4 and DDR5 have the same number of pins, the notch location is different.

Q: Will I need a new generation of motherboard(s) to run DDR5? 
A: Yes, a new generation of motherboards and CPU's will be required to run DDR5.

Q: Can I combine multiple kits of CORSAIR DDR5 memory?
A: You can buy multiple kits of CORSAIR DDR5 memory, but we do not recommend combining them, as our memory kits are only validated for their rated performance when using only the modules provided within that specific kit.

Q: Does DDR5 have XMP or Extreme Memory Profile?
A: Yes! DDR5 employs a new specification, XMP 3.0, while DDR4 remains on XMP 2.0

Q: What's the difference between the Commander CORE XT and the Commander PRO?
A: The COMMANDER CORE XT includes two repositionable temperature sensors (vs four), one 3-pin RGB header (vs. one), one USB 2.0 pass-through (vs. two). The COMMANDER CORE XT also eliminates the need for a RGB fan hub, as it sports six RGB fan ports.

Q: Do I need an RGB header on my motherboard to use this?
A: You do not. Similar to the Commander PRO, the COMMANDER CORE XT plugs into an available SATA power cable from your PSU and USB header on your motherboard.

Q: What about my LED strips? Do I still need to use the iCUE Lighting Node Pro RGB Lighting Controller?  
A: You'll be able to connect our 3-pin RGB devices directly to the Commander CORE XT's RGB port, eliminating the need for the Lighting Node Pro controller.

We’ve partnered up with our friends at HWBOT to put together an overclocking competition that everyone can participate in before we celebrate the launch of DDR5 later this year!


Requirements:

You must use CORSAIR DDR4 memory


No engineering/qualification samples of other components are allowed


The rig you use must be yours and you must use the same platform (CPU/motherboard) for all 3 stages of the contest


No sub-ambient cooling allowed, let's see what you can do with a standard air cooler / liquid cooling


Contest Details:

The competition will take place over the course of 3 different stages, each lasting roughly 2 weeks to give you time to dial in your overclock and get the highest score you can get for each benchmark (the benchmark will change for each stage).

The first stage kicked off on August 15th and will run through September 7th (at the time of writing, you've got 18 days to get your first submission in for this stage of the competition).
