So many wires :( Help! (H150i, SP120)

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can someone help me out with understand these parts and finding out what else is needed?

I am building on 5000D Airflow case.

I want 3 (120mm) fans in front, 3 on side, and the H150i comes with 3 so I will mount it on top, and lastly the last exhaust fan in the back.

Here is what I have gathered so far in the image attached.

  • So 9 fans plug into the Commander Core and that connects to my mobo for power and control?
  • What about RGB control? Does the Commander Core allow this?
  • What about the last fan in the back (the one that comes with the case) - where does it plug into?

Thanks for your time! Looking forward to spending money on Corsair products 🤑

Have a look here for an almost identical question with some helpful comments...

... as a starter though, no, you will not be plugging 9 fans into the Commander Core, if you take a closer look at it you'll see it handles PWM + RGB connections for 6 fans and the connector from the AIO.

... and if those are really the old SP120's you will have other problems, but are they perhaps one of the newer versions?

Thank you. Someone on Discord shared the diagram as well.

I now realize I will need another hub or repeater.

To answer your question, I believe it's a newer version: "iCUE SP120 RGB Elite Performance"

Do you know if the 5000D comes with a repeater?

Yes the 5000D ships with a SATA powered PWM repeater for 6 fans.

Good news on the SP120 RGB Elite, if you buy those as 2 packs of 3, they will ship with a Lightning Node Core in each pack.

One of those will handle the RGB for the fans that you cannot connect to the Commander Core.

I'm getting a Z690-A.

I think you're referring to this?

  • 1x 24-pin ATX main power connector
  • 2x 8-pin ATX 12V power connector
  • 6x SATA 6Gb/s connectors
  • 4x M.2 slots (M-Key)
  • 1x USB 3.2 Gen 2 10Gbps Type-C port
  • 2x USB 3.2 Gen 1 5Gbps connectors (supports additional 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 5Gbps ports)
  • 2x USB 2.0 connectors (supports additional 4 USB 2.0 ports)
  • 1x 4-pin CPU fan connector

I want to use all USB ports in the front - will this affect how the wires are routed?

No, there aren't any USB 2.0 ports on the front panel, you will only connect USB 3.0 & USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C
