Question about Hydro X

Hello everyone,

 

At the moment I am using an H115i RGB platinum, I want to replace this with a custom loop. I plan to provide my 9900k and 2080TI with Hydro X. The plan is a 420mm front radiator and a 280mm top radiator. (I still have a whole stock of LL140 fans)

 

9900k @ 5Ghz

2080TI @ 2100 MHz

 

How do I know if the pump is strong enough?

Hi!

 

The XD5 RGB Pump/Res unit delivers a head pressure of 3.9 meters, powerful enough to provide adequate flow through a custom cooling loop of at least four water blocks and three radiators.

 

It'll have no issues with your planned Hydro X loop.

2 x 280mm will certainly provide good results. I am running that with a 2080 Ti and 8700K@5.1 GHz. While the 9900K might pull another 25W, my VBIOS is opened up to 400W on the GPU which likely exceeds your total or at least makes it a relatively even comparison. My coolant delta ranges from +9-12C over ambient temperature and corresponding hardware temps <50C on the GPU and <60C on the CPU. So still some headroom.

 

However, if you have the ability to add a 420mm vs 280, I would do it. In terms of raw coolant delta, a 420 may only net you 3C less when at mid range fan speeds (1000-1300). However, where it may be rather nice is it will allow you stay just under the "noisy point" for 140s. Most 140s start getting pretty noticeable around 1000-1100 rpm. With the 420, you may be able to let it ride at 800-900 and have a really quiet load set-up. I am always dancing around the 1000-1100 rpm line, especially in Summer. I would love a case where I could do dual 420s and make use of the gazillion 140mm fans I have lying around here.

XD5 RGB pump is over the top, do not worry. What case are you going to use?

Right now I have a Fractal Design Meshify S2 cabinet, but I am left with limited space for my radiators. The H115i 280mm rad does not fit at the top either at the moment. (Max 35mm mainboard components)

 

I'm now thinking about a P600s or Evolv X, both with 420mm rad front support.

I'm running a 9900k under an XC7, 2080 (non-TI), cooling my motherboard/VRM also with a 420 XR5 and 2x 480 XR7 with a single XD5. A fair bit of fittings as it's all soft-tube, and a drain cut-out, and plenty of verticality as it's a 1000D case, and the XD5 still just shoots coolant through it like none of it's there.
