Hollowshell18
I recently put together a small build from mostly spare parts that I intend to use as a media player/720p gaming rig connected to my TV. I ordered a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3 motherboard, and put in it a phenom II x4 955 and a Corsair CM3X2G1600C9DHX memory kit that I had laying around. The board recognizes the ram just fine. Because the ram's intended for 1.8V, but the motherboard isn't exactly of the highest quality, am I risking damaging any components by running the ram at such a high voltage? peanutz94
I would seriously consider getting an updated memory kit. Memory voltage that high with the newer CPU's is risking damage to the memory controller in the cpu.
Hollowshell18
Thanks for the reply. Main reason I was curious is so far I've been unsuccessful (memtest unstable) dropping the memory to a lower frequency at a more reasonable voltage, even with ridiculously loose timings. I was hoping to reuse this set, but I suppose it is pretty dated.
Yellowbeard
1.8v memory running at 1.8v is completely safe with a Phenom 2.
peanutz94
DOH! totally missed the CPU. Thanks YB!
