MrMeowPuss
So I have ordered a MP510 to replace my Samsung as my OS/Program drive. I had a few questions in regards to doing a clean install on this drive. 1. Is it best to completely unplug my Sata drives before doing the install or will just disabling them in bios do? 2. Is it best to disable CSM and enable Secure Boot? 3. If I do a firmware update after installing windows, will that delete everything on the drive? Nazgul
#1, yes, unplug the other SATA drives just in case, I never install with the other drives plugged in. 2 & 3 Don't know what CSM is or Secure Boot, so I guess leave it alone. And no need to update the firmware I believe, I've been using mine straight out of the box and it does perform at the speeds it says in the specs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2 x64 © 2007-2018 hiyohiyo Crystal Dew World : https://crystalmark.info/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- * MB/s = 1,000,000 bytes/s [sATA/600 = 600,000,000 bytes/s] * KB = 1000 bytes, KiB = 1024 bytes Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 3467.106 MB/s Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 3058.027 MB/s Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 1533.128 MB/s [ 374298.8 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 1369.203 MB/s [ 334278.1 IOPS] Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 474.144 MB/s [ 115757.8 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 349.696 MB/s [ 85375.0 IOPS] Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 42.131 MB/s [ 10285.9 IOPS] Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 110.110 MB/s [ 26882.3 IOPS] Test : 1024 MiB [C: 7.0% (62.9/893.6 GiB)] (x5) [interval=5 sec] Date : 2019/09/29 2:35:50 OS : Windows 10 Professional [10.0 Build 18362] (x64)
MrMeowPuss
Thanks for the response! Ok will do, I’ll have to format the 2 SSD’s after too to remove all the previous windows install on them. CSM is compatibility support module, I’ve seen a lot of people mention the install doesn’t work if that is enabled. That’s good to hear, I guess I’ll leave the FW update for if I have any issues. The v12.3 F/W upgrade is non-destructive so long as you are starting from an earlier v12.* release. If your FW is currently v11.*, then the upgrade will wipe the drive. Personally, I would upgrade the FW prior to installing the OS, if this is practical. I have CSM enabled and Secure Boot disabled, although I doubt that it makes much difference. Also, for a fresh OS install, I concur that it would be safest to unplug all other SATA drives first. Edited October 13, 2019 by Yemble

Thanks for the response. I got the drive yesterday and installed it and turns out it's already on the latest firmware. I have quite a few things to do this week so I'll try the clean install of Windows this weekend.
indubioproretro
Hey. I installed my MP510 some days ago in my ASUS GU502GU and made a clean install of Windows 10 (1903) on it. The Corsair SSD Toolbox (1.2.5.7) and CrystalSSD Info show me, that this SSD has the firmware "ECFM22.5" - which, according to this forum, isn't right. The latest firmware, which came with the latest release of the Corsair SSD Toolbox should be 12.3. Hitting the update button of the toolbox only tells me that I have the latest firmware... Got a hint? Thanks.
