pegotico
After watching more 250D reviews on YouTube today I was thinking about that 95mm air cooler spec on the box. Even though there is 150-158mm total inside height, maybe the 95mm comes into play of an installed DVD drive in the 5.25" bay partially obstructs a cooler. I now think 95mm is a safe number depending on the design of the CPU cooler you choose. I just found the NT06-PRO which has a height of 83mm and comes with a 20 mm height fan, you can add one on the top but it would be 25 mm more. Here is the tdp 1 x 12020mm Fan:95W 1 x 12025mm Fan:130W 12020 + 12025 mm Fan:150W Don't know of the compatibility with the asus mobo ...
doublestab
I wonder what kind of modding fitting a Noctua NH-D14 would require? I think it's going to be a requirement for my build to reach my target OC of 4.5G with 4770k. It's only 3-5mm... maybe the top panel will even flex that much? :) It's side cooled so top clearance doesn't matter, as long as the panel closes it would be good. But another possibility would be to add a small riser under the window, maybe. Oh Corsair, why didn't you just make it 5 mm taller ;)
Steve Mavronis
Here are a series a scale mockups I tried so far. The last two are higher than the 95mm to fit under the optical drive & cabling, if installed. The Noctua NH-U9B SE2 could be turned sideways to clear the RAM slots, but you may have to lose the fan closest to the VRM riser. Otherwise you have up to 150-158mm vertical height depending on the exact measurement inside from CPU socket to roof. Remember the optical drive tray could be removed if you have to use an external drive instead. Steve Mavronis
I forgot to add this one. Not sure if it would have clearance issues with the motherboard risers? It would be in the way of the optical drive bay too. Noctua NH-C12P SE14 (152x126x114mm w/NF-P14 140x140x25mm Fan) 44mm RAM Clearance
pegotico
I read someone who bought the coolermaster GeminII M4 to use it on the impact and he wasnt able!
Corsair Employee Corsair Dustin Posted March 27, 2014 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 27, 2014 Motherboard component clearances notwithstanding, I went into the back and measured one of the 250Ds we have built up. Basically you're looking at about 140mm vertical clearance assuming either no ODD or a short one. Side clearances should be a non-issue. Again, this isn't taking individual motherboard component clearances into account.

HothTron
This screen capture is from that Japanese review, translated. It's an interesting photo showing up to 150mm total height for an air cooler? Others say the spec is 94mm. That's a 56mm difference from this measurement! How close to the clear window, with an air cooler grill radiating heat, is too close? http://home.comcast.net/~snmavronis/250d150mm.jpg One major issue with that measurement. Their measuring from the PCB board itself, NOT from the socket with a CPU installed which is easily over 5mm
