Coopz
I built my pc about 3 years ago using 2x2gig sticks of Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5D ram. Now I want to upgrade to 8gig (BF3 and Skyrim..) Noticed that the CM2X2048-6400C5 ram is around 30-40% cheaper than the 8500, do I need to buy the same or will they work together? Will the slower ram make much difference? My machine is fairly overclocked as well. Any help welcome.:)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted November 10, 2011 Corsair Employee Share Posted November 10, 2011 I am sorry but we do not support mixing sets officially, even if you purchase two sets of new modules that match there is no way to know if they will run together at full speed, But as long as they are all the same part and version they should be able to run at DDR667. Coopz
Ok, what happened to the 8500 series XMs2? Its not on the website anymore, only the 6400 is listed. Can the 8500 series XMS2 be matched with 2 x 2gb Corsair Dominators DDR2-1066mhz?
peanutz94
No, i wouldn't mix those two kits. They are completely different memories. I doubt it would even boot. Your best bet would be to start fresh with a new 8gig kit that is matched rather than trying to pair different dimms. It's just asking for trouble. *shrugs*
