piston2001
I just got 6GB TR3X6G1600C8 from online retailer zipzoomfly. On the box, it shows "DDR3 XMS". On the memory sticks itself, one side shows "DDR2 XM2", the other side shows "XM3 DDR3" + "TR3X6G1600C8". Is there a way to verify it before I power up the system and potentially blow the motherboard or memory ? Since DDR2 and DDR3 have the same pin configuration, there is no physical difference. So how can I tell if it is really DDR2 or DDR3 ? Please advise. Thanks.
Wired
There definitely IS a physical difference. DDR2 and DDR3 have the same number of pins, but are physically notched differently. If it fits, it's DDR3. If not, it's not :) In reality, it sounds like a DDR2 label got placed on DDR3 by accident. You can definitely RMA it if you like via ZZF or Corsair, but physically it's fine. piston2001
Thanks for your response. Yes, the memory sticks did fit into the motherboard. That's why I assumed that it is a labeling error. I am not going to bother replacing it as long as it is DDR3.
