ASRock 939 Dual sata memory advise

has anyone else got 1 of these boards who runs 2x 1gb sticks? i dont want to blow £200 to find they dont work @ 400.

assuming they work and i get them running @ 1t.

would the cas 3 make much difference over the cas 2? i only use the pc for gaming (BF2 mostly).

ive looked round the net n the command rate (1t over 2t) seems to make the most difference albeit a small one, but theres not much in the cas ratings.

any help gladly received.

thanks

Hi,

I have this kit in my 939Dual-SATA2:

Corsair TWINX 3200C2 2048Mb/2Gb KIT (2x1024Mb)

The system reboots intermittently, and also the system fails the memtest86 at test #8 unless I turn the memory clock down to about 129MHz (from 200MHz)

I'm still looking for a solution - anybody got one?

thanks,

Kramy

Hi,

I have since tested the memory sticks individually on the ASROCK motherboard - both work fine with memtest86. So it looks like either a motherboard issue, or a problem with the matching of the pair.

??? I do see quite a few people are having the same problem as I'm seeing, so this may not be a pure RAM issue after all...

As long as both modules are the exact same part# and revision and both modules run one up with out problem that would suggest the memory controller is the problem. However, I have seen where the bios are not able to detect the CPU correctly will cause this as well. So please check that you have the latest bios from the MB maker as well.

I'm using 4x512 identical sticks of 3200c2pl (not twinx) running at 2.5-3-3-6 2T(1t don't boot) with last Asrock 939 dual sata bios 1.6(for me is better than other bios for handling 4 sticks) on my Venice 3000@2386mhz with no problem. The sticks are set to DDR 333 divider @217Mhz(voltage set to high):D:

Bye!

Try manual settings in BIOS don't use SPD/AUTO

Disable Flexibility option in Bios

Use High Voltage for Ram

I now use 2x512 DDR Ram at 233Mhz (466) 3-3-3-8 2T

That modules previously don't work on Abit NF-7 (nforce2) at 200Mhz with this Latencies.

CPU: Opteron 146 (200 x 10) O/C 280 = 2800Mhz

HT 2x840

Now I will buy TwinX XMS 2048MB 4000 and I hope everything will be OK.

I have the 939Dual-SATA2 and I'm having lots of problems running TWINX2048-3200C2PT memory at the advertised 2-3-3-6, so far I'm only stable at 3-3-3-8 (which the memory defaults to via SPD)

This motherboard can only push 2.7V max to the memory without a vdimm mod - could this be the problem? Spec sheet says this RAM needs 2.75V.

I've tried other timings such as 2-3-3-8, but they also fail after a few minutes on the SP2004 torture test. This is all at stock 200Mhz FSB and 2T.

I'd be grateful for any help or advice.

Update: I need to leave SP2004 running a bit longer but I seem to be stable at 2.5-3-3-8.

Next I'm going to try setting the FSB to 240Mhz and the ram divider to 166Mhz - giving an effective 200Mhz RAM clock and CPU clock of 2400Mhz. If I can manage that I'll be happy, even though the RAM timings aren't ideal.
