kldang
I bought a stick of VS512MB400 last October. My system ran prefectly OK until I bought another stick of VS512MB400 lately. When I install both of them onto my system, crashes happen very often. I found if I installed only either the new or old one only, the system was fine. Somehow, the system crashes quite often when I have both running on my machine. Is it because I need to get a VS512MB400 kit version??? or anything else I could do? Machine configuration: AMD 64 3200+ 512L2 cache (200x11 = 2200GHz) MSI K8T Neo-FSR2 VS512MB400 x 2 FX 5700 display card Memory setting is all set to "AUTO", so it's running at 2.5-3-3-8. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 23, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 23, 2005 Please try and install them in slots 1-3 or 2-3 and then go to bios setup and set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and test the system with http://www.memtest.org to be sure its stable. kldang
I tried to install both stick of VS512MB400 in all slot combination and with 2.7v but I still got errors from Memtest. The last test, I ran the test for 3-4 hours and got about 18 errors. I got errors for test 7 at memory location 58.1mb at pass 11. I feel it's the compatibility between 2 rams. Since I bought the 2 modules in different time, so the chips and layout seem different. Did Corsair test old and new modules compatibility issues? I feel I should have them running perfectly because I intended to buy the same model and thought they should be compatible. ========================================== AMD 64 3200+ 512 L2 cache (200x11 = 2200GHz) MSI K8T Neo-FSR2 VS512MB400 x 2 CL 2.5-3-3-8 2.7V FX 5700 display card
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 24, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 24, 2005 Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and lets make sure one is not failing.
kldang
I ran twice of Memtest on the NEW module: 3-4 hours 11 errors (happen at around 11 trials, total is 26 trails) 3-4 hours 18 errors(happen at around 11 trials, total is 26 trails) I ran once of Memtest on the old module: 24 hours for 10 errors (happen at 22 trails, total is 138 trails) Now, I am confused because both gave me errors and the new module seems to have higher error rate. I check my PSU is about 3.26, 5.05, 12.08. The system temperature is at most 39C. What can I do to solve about this now? ========================================================= AMD 64 3200+ 512 L2 cache (200x11 = 2200GHz) MSI K8T Neo-FSR2 VS512MB400 CL 2.5-3-3-8 2.7V FX 5700 display card
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 28, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 28, 2005 Getting erros with both modules would suggest some other problem, can you test the modules in another system?
kldang
Getting erros with both modules would suggest some other problem, can you test the modules in another system? I thought it might be the problems of heat, so I bought two heat spreader for the two modules. I installed both of them and ran Memtest for over 60 hours! Suprisingly, there is not error at all! I think the heat spreader is the solution, right?

Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 30, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 30, 2005 What is the room temp? And do you have good case cooling?
kldang
What is the room temp? And do you have good case cooling? The room temp should be arround 70-80F which is about 25c I have one fan on top and one fan from the PSU. Do you think if it's enough? I think it should be normal temp, why would I need the heat spreaders?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 31, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 31, 2005 You might want to get some case fans to help with cooling.
