007bont
hello, ive been using the pk5c for quite a while now and i used to run it with memory sticks from (well it has something to do with king) regular pc6400 modules. with the above combination i was able to get lots of difference oc profiles ranging from 2.4 to 4.2ghz. but without overclocking any memory! now i thought i get some decent ram, wich im sure it is , but no way it will run on 1066 or higher. the best i can get with normal voltage setting on the ram is 501mhz (eg 1002mhz) Memory Voltage 2.2 Volts Version 1.x and 2.15 Volts for version 2.x. while its clarly states 2.1 v on the modules?? http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54052 even when i use stock settings, like they have been descriped lots in this forum, there's no way it will run at 1066. even when the bios is loading and starts counting the memory it often stops before it hits the 1000mb. currently this is the only profile that runs smoothly (and actually works :D:) *cpu ratio 9x *fsb strap to nb 400 *fsb 376 *pcie 100 *dram frequency 1002 *dram command rate 2n *cas 5 *ras 5 *ras 5 *ras 15 the rest of the memory is set to auto *cpu volt 1.4875 *cpu pll volt auto *fsb termination volt auto * dram volt 2.1 *nb volt 1.4 *clock over charging volt 1.0 i ran memtest for 30 minutes on these settings and it gave 0 errors. i hope you guys can give some advise on this. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 16, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 16, 2008 Try and run the system with out over clocking the CPU will the memory run at DDR1066?
007bont
no, at stock settings it simply will not work, unless its set to 400mhz (i could try it on 2.2 volt with your permission)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 16, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 16, 2008 I would suggest testing the memory and then the CPU on another MB.
007bont
im sorry dont have any spare ones here  i've contacted tech support for an rma
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 17, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 17, 2008 Then you have some other problem, if the system will only post with the CPU set to 400 MHz and I would try and contact the MB maker and see what they say. 007bont
they say that this type of memory is not supported by them  i do get the system to post sometimes when running the memory at 1066, but when running memtest after that it either fails to even start testing or it gives a lot of errors. when using 1002mhz memtest runs fine but what else is new from asus.. p.s by 400mhz i meant the memory speed ;) aka ddr800
Yellowbeard
It sounds as if you may need a bit more voltage to the memory controller. Also, is the the P5K version that accepts both DDR2 and DDR3 on the same MOBO?
007bont
yes it has 3 different memory slots and 1 pair is for ddr3
Yellowbeard
yes it has 3 different memory slots and 1 pair is for ddr3 Those boards are notoriously bad for OCing based on results I have seen on the net. You may not be able to get it to OC to 1066.
007bont
yeah its all about having luck with the chipsets used in the board.. but it has native 1066 support..
007bont
well im getting a bit closer now: when adjusting bios settings to this, im able to boot into windows at 1066mhz CHA CLK SKEW [150PS] CHA FB SKEW [150PS] Adjust CHB SKEW Support [ENABLED] CHB CLK SKEW [000PS] CHB FB SKEW [000PS] but it isnt stable yet (bsod in the middle of 3dmark), but i was wondering if you may have any other suggestions on these settings... (p.s these settings only worked in an oc'ed enviorment, using standard values these wont work)
007bont
CHA CLK SKEW [150PS] CHA FB SKEW [150PS] Adjust CHB SKEW Support [ENABLED] CHB CLK SKEW [000PS] CHB FB SKEW [000PS] well i changed the 150 to 300ps...and its running superb, even on a cold boot. the bios post actually needs more time then windows needs to boot now  , so Corsiar you just made someone very happy :sunglasse stock speeds can be used too (for a Q6600 2.4ghz, use a multiplier of 6!) but if any of you have some extra ideas on those skew settings, please let me know! p.s could someone from corsair please cancell rma no: 1065852
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 21, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 21, 2008 You can also look at the BIOS optimization guide posted at Techarp the share ware version is pretty complete but if you really want to know about BIOS settings and can afford it I would suggest subscribing to their service and they will help you with any setting not listed in their Guide. 007bont
ok these are the recommended setting when using a P5KC board, although they may work on other P5K boards aswell. first things first, update the bios (if needed) to 1105, because that will give you certain features needed to tweak this board. go to tab advanced and then select Jumperfree configuration. like always set the timings manually. but by only doing this you probably have noticed that your system will not post. in the second photo, you will see a section called SKEW: set these to enabled and fill in the numbers displayed in the photo. in theory by making just these settings your system should noot now. untill the next morning, that is :D: Asus boards have the nasty habbit of not booting up correctly after a while (cold boot) i've found that by increasing the vcore voltage a bit, that problem solves it self. http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4387&stc=1&d=1225139813 http://www.houseofhelp.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4388&stc=1&d=1225139813
