Add another TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX or buy new 8G kit?

I've looked around and couldn't find a good answer to my question.

 

I have an older system that I built in 2007 with a 4G kit (TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX) but now want to upgrade to 8G which is the max for my MB.

 

Is it better to buy another 2x2G kit (original kit p/n is still available for $89) or just pony up for a 2x4G kit and retire the old ram?

 

It would seem that adding an identical pair of simms would be fine but I'n not the expert.

 

I'm not overclocking, all out of the box settings but I use a high end CAD program and have started using the Adobe CC suite and it seems to like a lot of memory.

Mixing kits cvan be hit or miss . It's best to just replace what you have now with a single matched kit of the capacity you need.

I did some more searching and found some info which confirms what you said. I think I'll take your advice and just buy an 8G kit and

not take the chance of having problems.
