No. you need to have CUE open for everything but static lighting.

Sorry, I'm not sure that answers my question. I have button 8 on my Corsair Sabre assigned to profile switch. If I exit CUE the button no longer profile switches.

As he said above, if CUE is closed only the static lighting saved to a device will work.

 

If you want to have lighting effects or macros working you need to have CUE open in background, so yes it is not supposed to work if you close CUE.

I have to say, a requirement that a program like CUE is open, not iconized, for it to do what it is supposed to do is really, really stupid. I certainly hope that gets changed in Version 2.

No, you're misunderstanding what I said. You need to have CUE open in background, just the usual icon in the traybar is enough. You don't have to keep the program window itself open on the screen.
