Ketchup
Hello, I have bought 2xVS512400 Dimm to add to 2 others Dimms. The difference between the new ones and the old ones are the chipsets, they are 64bits placed on only one side of the Dimm while the old dimms have 32bits placed on both sides. When I boot with all 4 dimms, I get a long regular bip, if I use only the one-sided dimms on the mobo, I get the same bip. I have configured the bios in manual: 2.75-3-3-8 Can someone tell if this incompatibility is normal? Thanks a lot, Ketchup
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted December 15, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 15, 2008 In some cases unfortunately, you will not be able mix unmatched modules. If you need more memory, I would suggest approved/test 1GB modules for your system. You can check our memory finder linked in my signature to find the correct modules for your system. Ketchup
Hi Ram Guy, thanks a lot for answering. I really don't get it why this information is not present in the mobo manual... Now, I have bought 2 dimms for nothing...
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted December 15, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted December 15, 2008 You might try and manually set the memory frequency at DDR333 and set the timings manually to Cas 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.75 Volts and see if it will post. Also make sure command Rate is set to 2T as well.
Ketchup
Thanks Ram Guy, finally I found that one of my Dimms was defected and also that I was not correctly using dual channel. Asus A8N-SLI says that it supports full 4GB, but we agree that Windows XP will never allow the use of more than 3GB for applications... (the rest being used for system processus).
