T_BEAR
Hello I just built a new computer in the last month and I have been getting random BSOD (blue screen of death) messages. These are all the error/fault messages I have been getting (oldest to most recent.) These BSOD messages just appear out of thin air. Sometimes they occur when I am playing a game but most often they happen when my computer sits idle overnight. Error code 0000000000000050, parameter1 fffffa8004489000, parameter2 0000000000000000, parameter3 fffff97fff17efd4, parameter4 0000000000000000. I was searching online and many people said the culprit is bad ram. Thus I went and tested my 4 one gigs sticks of ram with Memtest86+. When I tested all of the sticks I got an address error and like 150+ errors counted. I then proceeded to test each ram stick independently (in the same slot) and I was still getting the same address error with tons of errors. I also tried in different slots but I am still getting errors. Each stick of ram showed errors within the first pass... So are these BSOD messages caused by bad ram? I really want to get my new computer stable and working properly. please help! Thanks T_BEAR :):
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 18, 2008 If you are getting errors with all of the modules that would suggest some other problem, can you tell me the CPU Speed and it's FSB and the BIOS settings you had set for both CPU and memory? T_BEAR
Yeah, I thought it was very unlikely that all of the modules are bad. But then why does memtest86 show errors? The CPU is running stock. 333X9 = 3.0GHZ. I have tried running the ram at 1.8v @ 555-18 and 2.1 @444-12. I was running the ram at 555-18 when all of the blue screen messages occurred. Right now I'm running at 444-12 with 1 gig. I haven't gotten any blue screen yet..but I have been running for only 24 hours.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 18, 2008 I am not sure the PSU you have will run a 8800 GT Video card I would check with the maker of the Video card to be sure. As that would cause errors like this. Also Please make sure that you have the latest bios and load setup defaults and then set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts then set the timings manually to the tested settings for the specific module you have, Cas 4-4-4-12 2tC/R and TRC to 24 if it is listed and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing. . DerekT
Have you made any changes in the BIOS? If so, please document the changes made.
T_BEAR
I'm running GA-EP35-DS3R (rev. 2.1) with F1 bios. http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/BIOS_Model.aspx?ProductID=2743 My video card says it needs a min of 400 watts so I don't think that's a problem. Also I don't know what "2tC/R and TRC to 24" means. In my bios I have these options to play with in the advanced timing control ACT to ACT delay (tRRD) Rank Write to Read delay Write to Precharge delay Refresh to ACT delay Read to precharge delay Static tRead Value Static tRead Phase adjust I was going to update the BIOS after I tried changing tC/R and TRC. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 18, 2008 C/R = Command Rate AKA Command Per Clock. And if TRC is not listed dont worry about it. My video card says it needs a min of 400 watts so I don't think that's a problem. I think you are miss reading that statement. Your Video card needs 22-26 amps by itself so depending on the system configuration minimum PSU should be a 520 Watt PSU. However all PSU's are not rated the same way and you may find a 500 Watt works fine but a cheaper 600 Watt does not. So again I would check with the maker of your Video Card to be sure. But as far as I know the smallest PSU NVidia will suggest is 550 Watts.
T_BEAR
Update: So I tested the ram in my friends computer and it passed wooo! I have a feeling if I update my bios it should work fine. I tried to update the bios yesterday but I was getting a checksum popup right before it updated. I'm scared to update it with this popup so I sent gigabyte an email. This is what the problem is: "I am currently running bios version F1 and I would like to update the bios to the latest version. When I go into the bios flash utility and try to read the bios file I get a checksum popup. Once the flash utility has finished reading the bios file on my usb a pop up windows comes up saying: checksum = 2700 Are you sure you want to update bios? This error occurs when I try and update my bios to F2. When I try to update the bios to f3b the error is different: checksum = FBOO Are you sure you want to update bios? I get the same checksum popups when I run off of a floppy disk or an usb drive. Is it safe to proceed with the bios update even with these checksum popups? " Has anyone else had this problem before? Is it normal to get this popup?
DerekT
A checksum is a redundancy check. A method to ensure that the data is valid when compared to the original data. Keep in mind that the only BIOS that would have the identical checksum would b e the identical BIOS. Every BIOS will be different due to changes made in the data. Use the utility embedded in Flash ROM to flash your BIOS. I do not advise Windows flashes. Please research: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/FileList/WebPage/motherboard_howtoreflash_bios/flashbios_qflash.pdf Once you have flashed, post back here and we will help you setup your system. T_BEAR
I checked the manual that came with my motherboard and it didn't say anything about the checksum popup. Sorry for being dumb :(. Anyways, I updated my bios to F2 and ram memtest for 9 hours (14 passes) and there were no errors found. It looks like everything is fine. I hope this fixes my random blue screen problem. I'm running at 4-4-4-12 @ 2.1V.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 20, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 20, 2008 DerekT is correct but if you go to BIOS setup and load setup defaults and then set the tested settings you should be fine.
T_BEAR
I updated my bios and I still get blue screen of death messages. I saved my latest dump file and opened it up with "debugging tools for windows." This is what it says: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (50) Invalid system memory was referenced. This cannot be protected by try-except, it must be protected by a Probe. Typically the address is just plain bad or it is pointing at freed memory. Arguments: Arg1: fffffa800877c000, memory referenced. Arg2: 0000000000000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation. Arg3: fffff97fff17efd4, If non-zero, the instruction address which referenced the bad memory address. Arg4: 0000000000000000, (reserved) I have attached the dump files for more info. What should I do now?dump files.zip
DerekT
Often when you have beginning issues to find stability you end up with an corrupted OS. Perform a fresh installation of the OS. Download memtest from--->Here and extract the ISO image. Burn the ISO image to a CD-ROM disk. and boot to the Memtest CD allowing for two full passes. If you pass, then install the OS freshly. If you fail, remove one of the memory sticks and leave the first one (Closest to the CPU) in and retest. Then remove that stick and replace it with the second stick and retest. Results? by the way, your minidumps show an AMD kernel base and a sound dump on both dumps. What sound card are you using?
T_BEAR
I ran memtest a few weeks back after updating my bios and I didn't get any errors (14 passes). I also I did the windows repair a week back and that didn't help with the blue screens either. I am using an audigy 2 sound card too. Should I remove the audigy 2 card and switch over to integrated sound and see if that helps before installing windows fresh? Do you think a fresh install would be different than a repair install? I would not perform a repair in this situation. A repair will very likely migrate the issue. I would remove the Audigy 2 in the freshly installed system and go with the onboard sound for the purposes of testing. I would also perform an image of the system so that you do not have to perform fresh installs again. :)
T_BEAR
I removed my audigey 2 and used my integrated sound and I still get an blue screen error. My only choice now is for a clean install...I have attached the new dump file. I'm not sure how to read it but I would like to know if there is an AMD kernel base and a sound dump on my latest dump file.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted April 9, 2008 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 9, 2008 You need to use http://www.memtest.org to test the system, if there is a problem you will corrupt the HDD if you have not already. And with 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667.

DerekT
It would help to attach it. I agree :D: I attach the dumpfile analysis. You will note that the issue on dump is "dump_iaStor" with 7 iterations of dump. This is the Intel Matrix RAID driver. Do you have the latest driver for the RAID? Are you still running with SP1 (XP)? Update your system if you are.dump.txt
