geckoman
My wife has a Dell Inspiron 600m with only 256MB (I know - how rude of me to have never upgraded this for her!). When I went to find out what sticks you carry that I could upgrade with I found only this: VS512SDS266 Details Memory Type » DDR-266 (PC-2100) SODIMM Size » 512MB Latency » 2.5-3-3-6-2T Format » 200-pin SODIMM Now the from the Dell website it indicates that I can get 1GB sticks: Tech Specs Package Type Logical Type 200-pin SODIMM DDR 128x64 Speed Description PC2700 / 333 MHz Standard SODIMM And note that it is PC2700 and not the PC2100 that you guys are recommending. I want to put at least 1GB, and possibly 2GB, and you guys do have this: VS1GSDS333 PC-2700 1GB 2.5-3-3-7 200pin SODIMM Why would this not work? Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2007 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 14, 2007 At this time I cannot pull up the information about that system to be sure but most likely it will depend on the CPU you have installed. I would suggest running CPU-Z on your NB and see what the CPU FSB is running at, if its running at 133 MHz the system should support DDR333 but if its running at 400MHz then you will be limited to DDR266. geckoman
My wife took the laptop w/her so i cannot confirm. I ran cpu-z earlier, and I don't remember what it said. I think it had PC2700 in it now with the FSB at 133... I'll check when she gets home. Thanks
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2007 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 14, 2007 Please be sure what it has before you purchase as the reseller may not let you return it if it's not right. Look under the CPU tab for the CPU and the Memory Tab to see what the current memory speed and settings are.
geckoman
crud - the rated FSB on the CPU tab is 400 MHz, and the memory frequency is 133MHz, so it looks like I need DDR266 - right?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2007 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 14, 2007 Yes sorry you will need to use the slower part!
geckoman
hmm... so both the dell sites and cr***il sites recommend pc2700. and the cr***il site says the it is backwards compatible, so if the specs called for was pc2100, pc2700 will still work. i am confused now... Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted September 14, 2007 Corsair Employee Share Posted September 14, 2007 You are welcome to try it or try the modules from the other site. However, for some reason with DELL systems when we tested them they will not post with faster modules even if they slower SPD information is there. Sorry but I would suggest using the part we suggest.
