rdhinmex
MB: ABIT NF7-Sv2.0 found here: http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/drivers.php?categories=1&model=6 I currently have a real nice stick of Corsair XMS 512 (CMX512-3200XLPT) that has been running stable at 2-2-2-5 for 2 years playing WoW exclusively. found here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145521 My question is: Bang for the buck, should I spend 100 and buy another 512MB of the same type of memory. Will I still be able to run 2-2-2-5 or will it more likely run at CAS 2.5? Also, since prices for a 1GB stick are nearly the same, would this make a faster setup. Would I have problems? I see two options: 1. I could get 2x512MB and have 3 nearly equal stick and probably run 2-3-3-6 or worse eg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145450 2. or buy 1x1024MB and use only 2 of the 3 slots eg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145576 I seem to recall somewhere that dimm2 and dimm3 where the "shotgun slots for my MB and able to run at 400MHz, but that dimm1 (or if all 3 were used) I would not get 400MHz FSB Thanks for the help BTW: running 3000MHz AMD Barton (and I dont have $250 to spend so 2x1GB are a bit out of my range)
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted February 13, 2006 Corsair Employee Share Posted February 13, 2006 You will not be able to Mix 512 Meg and 1.0 Gig modules with this MB and I would not suggest it with any MB. Your best chance and running tight timings would be to match what you have now or just order Twinx1024-3200XL set of modules for 1.5 GIG and yes you may have to relax the timings to get all three to run properly because of loading on the memory controller.
