piperwarrior16b
I am running an X64 4800+ Dual core on an Asus a8n-sli premium MB ( BIOS 1009) x64 edition, with 4 sticks of 512MB XMS3200XL (well at least I was). Now I get the message "missing or corrupt ntoskrnl.exe". When I remove 2 sticks, and reboot everything is fine. I have tested the individual memory sticks individually and in pairs, and they seem to be fine. I have done a complete reformat and reinstall of x64 but that didn't help either. I have "expanded" the ntoskrnl.exe file from the install disk to the root directory, but no luck. I am using the default setting from the 1009 BIOS which automatically clocks the memory at 333mhz, 2T. I have tried to adjust the memory voltage to 2.80V, to see if that would help... it didn't. Can anyone solve this puzzle? Please!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 1, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 1, 2006 Can you tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 3, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 3, 2006 Please try these settings after you load setup defaults. Memlock index value (MHZ) 333 CAS# latency (Tcl) 2.5 Min RAS# active time (Tras) 7T RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd) 3T Row PreCharge Time (Trp) 3T Row Cycle Time (Trc) Bios default Row refresh cycle time (Trfc) Bios default Read-to-write time (Trwt) Bios default Write Recovery Time (Twr) Bios default 1T/2T Memory Timing AUTO S/W DRAM over 4G Remapping ([Disabled]) H/W DRAM over 4G Remapping ([Disabled]) DRAM Voltage: [2.8V] Hyper Transport Freq – [Auto] CPU Freq – [200mhz] PCI Express Clock - [100mhz] Chipset Voltage [+1.5V] HT Voltage [+1.2V] CPU Multiplier [Auto] 12.0 CPU Voltage Auto (1.35V) PCI Clock Synch Mode [Auto] Then test with http://www.memtest.org. piperwarrior16b
I used the settings you suggested and used memtest to test the memory. The problem, indeed seems to be with the memory module, and not due to using 4 dimms. I have isolated the match pair that are not working correctly. With the defective memory I get the NTOSKRNL.EXE missing/corrupt message even with only 2 DIMMS installed. I suppose I need an RMA.
