Bullseye21
Atm I have a CMX512-3200XL (2-2-2-5 ?) Ram stick in my motherboard. A few months ago I had trouble installing new ram into my computer. (auto-detect settings didnt work for some reason...and other complications) Anyway, I'm willing to give it another shot. I want another 512MB of ram, and started looking around. I came across this [512MB DDR400 RAM Cas2 Corsair CMX512-3200C2]. My question is, will my motherboard be able to support this? The timings on this are [2.5-3-3-6] (yes i have an AMD platform) If it is, then what should i change in my memory timings section in my bios settings? It is currently at: [greyed out] SDRAM Active Precharge Delay: 5 [greyed out] SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay: 2 [greyed out] SDRAM RAS Precharge Delay: 2 [greyed out] SDRAM CAS Latency: 2 But if i buy the cas2 ram which is [2.5-3-3-6], would I need to change the memory timings to: [greyed out] SDRAM Active Precharge Delay: 6 [greyed out] SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay: 3 [greyed out] SDRAM RAS Precharge Delay: 3 [greyed out] SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5 ?? Sorry.. I'm pretty new to this stuff, any help would be great! Thanks
Garvin
If you're trying to achieve dual channel for 1 gig with this board and an Amd processor, the sticks need to exactly match in brand, model and version number, otherwise they may not run together at all or will run only in single channel or run at reduced speed. You're best bet is to get a Twinx 1 gig kit.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted January 11, 2006 Corsair Employees Share Posted January 11, 2006 Sorry for the delay, I would not suggest mixing memory in any both modules should be exactly matched. So you should try and match the existing modules you have now for best performance and stability.
Bullseye21
Im buying a TWINX1024-3200C2 over the weekend. What will i need to change in my BIOS when the time comes? Here are my current settings now. I have an AMD so timings for this ram is: 2.5-3-3-6 Here is my current Bios settings: Advanced Chipset features CPU external frequency ----166MHz CPU Freq. Multiple setting----auto X Cpu freq. multiple----------12.5x System perfomance---------Aggressive X Cpu Interface-------------Aggressive X Memory Frequency---------100% Resulting Frequency------166mhz X Memory timings------------Aggressive X SDRam active precharge delay----5 X SDRAM ras to cas delay----------2 X SDRam ras precharge delay-------2 X SDRam CAS latency--------------2T FSB spread spectrum-------------Disabled AGP spread spectrum--------------Disabled Cpu V core setting----------------Auto X Cpu V core-------------------1.650v Graphics aperature size----------128mb AGP freq-------------------------auto System Bios Cacheable------------Disabled Video Ram Cacheable--------------Disabled DDR referance voltage------------------2.6v AGP VDDQ voltage-----------------------1.5v AGP 8x support--------------------Enabled AGP fast write Capability----------Disabled Also, whats it like with 1gig of ram? Is it a noticable difference compared to 512? in what way?
