Ryan Myers
I've purchased Corsair XMS ProSeries 512MB PC3200 DDR DIMM Memory thinking that it would be compatible with my Sony PCV-RS530G. However, the Cosair website does not show that it is. So I'm a little worried. Does anyone know if this will work in my computer? Thanks Ry
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted January 4, 2006 Corsair Employee Share Posted January 4, 2006 You are welcome to try our XMS but I would not suggest our XMS modules with any OEM system.
Ryan Myers
Does XMS always fail with OEM systems or have you had some success with them?
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted January 4, 2006 Corsair Employee Share Posted January 4, 2006 They may work in your system but you would not be able to set the tested settings. I would consider upgrading to a channel MB as soon as you can.
Ryan Myers
not sure what you mean by "channel MB". Please clarify. I'm not that good with computer verbage. Also, if I'm going to keep this computer, what would you suggest as far as RAM? thanks again for all your help. Ry
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted January 4, 2006 Corsair Employee Share Posted January 4, 2006 Channel = Just about any MB that is sold as a retail package just the MB not in a system.

Ry You see, OEM systems not only require an SPD on the modules, but they tend to always run memory at the JEDEC-standard timings (say, 3-3-3-8 or 3-4-4-8 @ DDR400/200MHz) and voltage (2.5V to 2.6V). Thus, you can use the C3 version of the Value Select or the non-XL/non-LL/non-C2 (3-3-3-8 rated) version of the XMS3200 modules (if you don't mix your new modules with your existing memory), or the System Select modules if you intend to mix the new modules with your existing memory.
