Good evening, everybody! I am a newcomer to this forum and I am looking to buy my first ever Corsair memory module. I am looking to buy this replacement motherboard ABIT IC7-MAX3, a Corsair VS512MB400 512MB DDR400 PC3200 CAS2.5 Value Select Memory memory module, and an Intel P4 2.6GHz w/ FSB800. Will this combo work okay? BTW, the MOBO that failed was a 3-yr. old ABIT VT6X4 with a fully functional 866MHz Slot1 Processor (1 yr. old and never been overclocked :~~~~~~~~~~((((((((((((((( ...) and 3 sticks of 512 MB PC133 SDRAM (2 yrs. old and they passed memtest86's 11 tests 11 times each with no errors :((( ...). The MOBO has no problem detecting the HDDs, video card, Zip drive, and CD-ROM drive. However, I keep getting the error message "Error loading operating system" everytime the computer searches all the drives for boot instructions. I have assumed that it was the MOBO because the memory has passed memtest86 many consecutive times, the computer remembers the BIOS, but when I remove all existing hard drives, attach a brand new IDE HDD, then try to install Win2K on it, I still get the message "Error loading operating system" when the installation tries to get into Win2k for the first time, and I don't ever get to enter a Product Key! I have even tried to switch the new HDD from IDE-1 to IDE-2 but to no avail. If I could somehow fix this error, then I would be ever so grateful. If not, then, well, tripling my CPU speed and upgrading to USB 2.0 and AGP 8x can't be all bad... BT PS, I really don't need my new machine to do any high-intensity, or even low-intensity, graphics development or to play even some of the latest greatest PC games with awesome graphics. I just need a PC that will allow me to use Microsoft Office and print occasional documents. Current machine: ---------------------- ABIT VP6 Dual P3 1000MHz FCPGA 2048MB SDRAM PC133 Radeon AIW 8500 128MB External Dial-up modem Audigy Sound Card R.I.P.? -------- ABIT VT6X4 P3 866MHz Slot1 1536MB SDRAM PC133 ELSA Gladiac-64 video card Internal PCI dial-up modem (also bad) Audigy Sound Card

Can you tell me the O.S. you have installed? And have you tried a fresh install on another HDD? I have Windows 2000 installed. The computer had been working just fine until last Tuesday. And yes, I still got the "error loading operating system" message even after trying to install Windows 2000 on a brand new, never-been-opened, 120GB HDD. In fact, even using a fresh drive, the computer never made it into the GUI portion of the installation!
