blightdragoon
I recently purchased a Value Select Dual Channel 1024MB PC3200 Kit. It seemed to work fine for a month or so, but now i'm getting constant crc errors trying to install software in windows. When i tried to reinstall windows i got the error Stop: 0x0000008e which according to microsoft means that one or both of the memory modules are bad. I swapped the bad modules out for a known working module that was used previously in the system and the problems stopped. My system is: Asus P4P800 (Bios Revision 1019) P4 3.0GHz E Are there any other tests i should run before sending an RMA request for the memory modules? fetdaddy1001
You may want to do a Memtest just to be sure. http://www.memtest.org Boot from a cd and wait for one Pass to get through and see if any errors come up, if so follow the instructions for "i think i have a bad part" or whatnot
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 21, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 21, 2005 Please disable legacy USB when running http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. blightdragoon
I ran memtest on both modules individually, one had no problems through several passes, the other had 1000's of errors almost right away.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 22, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 22, 2005 But did you disable legacy USB and please tell me the exact settings you had set for both CPU and memory?
blightdragoon
I disabled legacy usb, the memory and cpu settings were set to standard by the AI Overclock Tuner.
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 22, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 22, 2005 You have to set AI over clock tuner to manual to set the dim voltage to 2.75 Volts.
blightdragoon
I set the dimm voltage to 2.75V and disabled usb legacy support and left everything else at defaults. Memtest still returned 60-12000 errors on every test except 9 and 10.

Funny; I believe I have a bad stick as well, though my OTHER bad Corsair sticks take precedence over this one. I have a single 512MB stick of the ValueRam PC3200. I'm running it at SPD, no overclock in an Epox 8R3DAI board. If I do anything memory intensive, benchmarks or folding/crunching of any kind, I get a BSOD. In everyday use, it's fine. It's in my HTPC. I play MP3s and search the web and it's dandy. I won't be buying the cheap stuff anymore.
