drs Posted February 17, 2005 Share Posted February 17, 2005 Have had system instability problems since soon after system build. System will work fine then randomly reboot or lock up. Sometimes will reboot several times before winxp sp2 loads successfully. Have noticed that LEDs on 1 stick usually off the other all lit when locked up. Put bios back to all default auto settings, ran memtest86 v3.2 got several hundred errors with memory in slots 1&2 or 3&4 at 200MHz. Got 0 to 1 errors with memory in slots 1 and 3 in 2-3 passes at 167MHz. Tried each stick in slots 1 and 3, got 30-40 errors after 2 passes in all configs at 200 MHz. Trying slots 2 or 4 separately doesn't work. Increasing voltage to 2.75v decreases memtest errors from hundreds to few but doesn't prevent lockups. First athlon system, swimming in unknown waters here. What are optimal settings or ideas to rule out memory problems? Dim Voltage to +2.8 Volts: CAS Latency CL=2.0 Row Cycle Time tRC Bios Default Row Refresh Cyc Time tRFC Bios Default Ras# to CAS# delay tRCD 3 Row to Row delay Bios Default Min Ras# Active Time tRAS 5 Row Precharge Time tRP 2 Write Recovery Time Bios Default Write to Read delay Bios Default Read to Write Delay Bios Default Refresh Period tREF Bios Default Enable 2T Timing Disabled Then test the system with http://www.memtest.org and make sure it's stable! drs Posted February 18, 2005 Author Share Posted February 18, 2005 The suggestions seemed to have worked. 5+ passes with memtest no errors and no crashes ripping music or gaming.
