Blackfield
Hi all! So I recently bought 2x4GB Vengeance DDR4 2333 MHz for my new gaming PC (sorry but they are way too pricy right now to go up to 16 GB :D ) I had plenty of issues with my computer since then and went to an IT-Store. They confirmed that actually BOTH RAM's were broken even though memtest did not show any issues when I tested the configuration. Lucky for me, they sold me a pretty cheap 8 GB 2666 MHz from a 16GB bundle. Now I wonder: Do I need to buy the exact same 8 GB RAM from another bundle to use it in my system and in dualchannel mode? (CMK16GX4M2A2666C16R) Or can I simply buy a normal 8 GB RAM? (CMK8GX4M1A2666C16R) Thanks for your response. p.s.: I know you won't like the question and might not answer, but when will these ridiculously high RAM prices go down again? :D
Administrators Technobeard Posted January 18, 2018 Administrators Share Posted January 18, 2018 They shouldn't be breaking up a memory kit like that. Each stick will run fine on its own, but there's a reason memory's sold in kits - to ensure compatibility. There's no way to guarantee that another 8 GB module will play well with that one. Blackfield
Hm damnit... how about 2x4GB and the single 8GB? Still not recommended I guess bc of the different MHz? Guess I will have to go back to that It store...
Administrators Technobeard Posted January 19, 2018 Administrators Share Posted January 19, 2018 Same answer, yes. That would be attempting to mix memory that hasn't been tested together that's also of different sizes and speeds.
