I9-7900X / 128GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHZ at 2666MHZ?!

Hi,

I have 128GB of Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200MHZ C16 Memory installed in an Asus TUF X299 Mark 2 with an Intel I9-7900X. The BIOS version is the latest - 0503.

I have the CPU running at 4600 MHZ +. Yet the RAM is running at 2666 MHZ instead of 3200 MHZ?

I just read Intel officially supports 2666 MHZ for the I9. Yet others are running the I9 with RAM speeds of 3200 MHZ.

Is 128GB just too much to run reliably at 3200 MHZ?

You need to manually enable XMP (or set your timings and frequency yourself) in the BIOS. I am not sure we know where the limit is for X299, but 128 GB at 3200 is a lot. The other possibility is Asus is preventing you from doing this. There were some similar early day limitations on X99 and the BIOS would cut you off at certain DRAM volumes/frequencies. That is likely to change in time as the BIOS matures.

Update:

Yes, I suspected the BIOS caused the problem. A search on google showed many people having problems with 0503. Fortunately, one of the ASUS guys on overclock.net was alerted to the issue and got in touch with the team releasing the BIOS' and they fixed it within a few days. So I flashed the latest release TUF-X299-MARK-2-ASUS-0031.CAP that was made available by Raja@ASUS and am very happy to report that it is running great at 3200 MHZ and also overclocked to 4644.8 MHZ! I could try to go higher with the RAM but why bother. I am happy with it at this point!
