Krgll
Hi There (Sorry for my english) I just updated a very old computer (Intel D865PERL, P4 HT, 3GB RAM, no AHCI here) from a PATA IDE disk to Corsair Neutron GTX 120GB. Standard Windows 7 backup / restore process by a third sata disk. No surprise here. During reboot, I saw no acceleration but decrease of performance. Opening Windows explorer takes around 10 secs the first time (quicker the others time), contextual menus are really slow. I looked to the thread already to see requests for benchmarks... So here they are :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Toasted
Back up all your data and secure erase the drive and install a clean version of Windows. Then run a ATTO benchmark again and see if the results are better.
Krgll
Ouch! Reinstall Windows 7 with all the endless config and softwares? That's quite a long run! I'm afraid my serial number key may become locked... just for a test... (?) I hope there is another option, (Windows 7 is quite expensive) Isn't it? :O

Not very encouraging. :[pouts: I'll read more about it before installing it back.
Krgll
Hi (sorry for my english) In short : I Secure Erased the Corsair Neutron GTX disk (see below) I Installed Windows 7 Pro x86 Multilanguage and I got a BSOD 7D during reboot. The installation never finished properly (see below) My BIOS was updated already to the last version (P21). AND I tried with another Intel machine (D875PBZ) with Another Corsair Neutron GTX drive and different equipment (USB cables, etc) with the exact same problem! (separate tread with details will be open shortly) Any suggestions? Thanks for your time and effort. Hardware description in more details: Motherboard : Intel D865PERL Chipset: i865P / PE / G / i848P Revision A2 Southbridge : 82801EB CPU : Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 3GHz HT. Bios version : P21 (latest available) RAM: Kingston K PC3200 1024MB (X2) and Micron PC3200 512MB (X2) Graphic card : ATI Radeon HD 4670 1024 MB DDR3 Secure Erased procedure in detail Note : This is not a recommended procedure - I'm no expert, my SSD don't work, my english is "sloppy" AND this is a dangerous operation. Crosscheck your references. Do it at your own risk. 1. I Downloaded pmagic_2012_11_30.iso and wrote Parted Magic on a CD. 2. Configure BIOS settings to allow Optical drive (DVD drive) to boot first. 3. I started the computer . Parted Magic CD is autoboot and may start. 4. From the start options : I choose "Default Settings (Run from RAM)" and press enter key (I have more than 418 MB RAM). 5. From the desktop, double-click the icon "Disk Eraser". It may start the program. 6. From "Choose a method you would like to use to erase a local disk" select "Internal : Secure Erase command writes zero to entire data area" and click the "continue" button 7. From the "Please select a device to initiate issuing the Secure Erase command" I selected the SSD to secure erase. In my case : "sda: Corsair Neutron GTX SSD (120 GB) [...]". Click on "Ok" button. 8. OUPS... "Unfortunately, the selected drive's security state is set to frozen. [...]" 8.1 I Wrote carefully the instructions, who is CASE SENSITIVE, because I feel I will need it. 8.2 On the taskbar, at the bottom, I saw an icon with a monitor showing black screen, identified by "ROXterm" and clicked on it, opening a shell. 8.3 I typed the suggested command and press the enter key. In my case, the command is "hdparm -Y /dev/sda". A message like "disk is sleeping" appeared. I typed "exit" and the enter key to close the shell. 8.4 Open the computer case. I Unplug the POWER connector from the SSD drive for more than 30 seconds. Then I replug it, then I closed the case. 9. I Redo step 5 to 7. 10. Then "A password is in used in conjunction with that command". The word "NULL" was in the text box. I just clicked on the "OK" button. 11 "Are you sure you want to continue???" All the data will be destroyed permanently, and I may "brick" the device (break and junk my precious brand new physical disk... Why me?). I choose to take the chance and clicked the "Yes" Button. 12 "ATA Secure Erase Command Issued [Date and time] [...]". In my case, it took less than one minute to process. 13 "hdparm's Secure Erase Operation against /dev/sda completed". I Clicked on the "Close" button. 14 I have rebooted the computer by the Parted Magic icon on the bottom left, I selected "Logout" then "Reboot the computer" Windows 7 installation in detail Note : Don't follow this procedure before reading it first - It's not working! 1. I changed the CMOS settings to boot from optical drive first. I looked also if the SSD drive was detected (yes it was). I added it to the boot list after the optical drive. 2. I start the genuine Windows 7 Pro x86 multilanguage DVD. 3. I select the language and keyboard. 4. I choose the Advanced Install 5. I select the SSD disk for installation. I click on the "Install" button. Long wait. First reboot. 6. At restart, nothing to do. Windows was "Uptating registry", than "Ending installation". Surprise!: BSOD 7E. Reboot. Message like "Cannot continue install, must reboot" and reboot again and again. At the seventh reboot, I unpluged the computer. And cried:[pouts:. Well... Any suggestion? Thanks again. Krgll
Hi (sorry for my english) In short : I backed up a working Windows 7 Pro x86 from a Sata HD to a third external disk then restored it to the SSD with Windows 7 tools. The SSD was very slow - Windows explorer takes 10 secs to open, contextual menus takes often 8 secs, access to file list 5 secs... I did make some diags at this stage - See below I Secure Erased the Corsair Neutron GTX disk I Installed Windows 7 Pro x86 Multilanguage and I got a BSOD 7D during reboot. Message like "Cannot continue install, must reboot" and reboot again and again. My BIOS was updated already to the last version (P34). Krgll
Remove the 2x Micron 512MB sticks and see if Windows would boot. I did it (the hard way) No change... I removed the unblessed memory. I Secure Erased the SSD. I Installed Windows 7 the same way. I got the same BSOD 7E - No long file name displayed. I tried the safe mode. No luck. "Windows can't finish the installation in safe mode. Please restart" Ok force the restart. Is this device compatible with Intel 82801EB southbridge??? I begin to seriously doubt about it.:(: Any suggestion? Confirmation? Infirmation? Thanks.
Toasted
Have you tried a different SATA data cable and motherboard port? Install Windows 7 on the SSD using the Z68 computer and then plug it back into the Intel motherboard. See if it can boot into Windows. If it doesn't. It's probably a compatibility issue.
