CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 Questions and Cold Boot Errors

Hello all,

I've recently build the system as listed in my profile or whatnot, and I have had a number of frustrating and quite strange behaviors that I hope someone here can help me fix. The first symptom I noticed is that I would receive errors on cold boots (turning on the computer after a few hours of it being off, the power never being disconnected). This was usually a blank desktop with explorer crash or a BSOD referring to a pagefile for memory fault. I began to research the problem and noticed that it was surprisingly quite common. Various brands of motherboards and RAMs combined in a variety of ways all have this strange cold boot problem. To test, I ran Memtest 86+ on a cold boot, and received thousands of errors within the first few seconds. I then rebooted the machine and ran the same test, with no errors after several passes. This mirrors the days prior, where I tried to get into windows, got a blue screen or crash around the Welcome Screen (Windows 7 64-bit), which then I rebooted and my computer ran stable for several hours under idle and relatively intensive gaming. I tried similar cold boots and memory tests using the motherboard auto and xmp. The timings and such seem to be what's recommended (9-9-9-24 2t at 1600mhz with 1.65V). I was wondering if there was some sort of definitive solution, as I have seen thousands of trials with not much luck. Is this just faulty ram, or is it incompatible? It seems to be listed as compatible on the Corsair site, and it does meet the specs on the Asus site.

The culprits that have been accused throughout my research has been the CPU, Motherboard, or Memory. I find it unlikely that it is the CPU although most of the RAM companies seem to place the blame on that. If no real solution is found I would like to RMA this RAM.

My System Specs reposted: (Not sure what brands get censored or not so I apologize for the rule break, please correct this for me)

Case: Antec 900

Motherboard: Asus p7p55D

HD: WD 1.5 TB

Videocard: ATI Radeon 5850

RAM: Corsair XMS3 CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 (2x2GB)

CPU: Intel i7 875K

Also, I'm trying to fill out the info on http://www.corsair.com/helpdesk/default.aspx

to get some technical support or request an RMA, and I noticed that it says the CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 is a single module? Every online store I have looked at (I purchased from http://www.newegg.com) has it as 2 modules of 2 GB each. I don't know if that matters or not, or if it is a deal breaker of some sort.

Please Help!

Thanks in advanced!

Thanks for the reply! I will try this when I get home and post let you know of the results. I used the current memtest on the Ultimate Boot CD on a CD rather than on a thumb drive, does the legacy driver still conflict?

Also, any word on this from my original post?:

I purchased my RAM from Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260) which sells it as 2 modules of 2 GB each. I don't know if that matters or not, or if it is a deal breaker of some sort. Will this give me trouble in the event of an RMA or anything?
