Quanta Posted July 18, 2009 Share Posted July 18, 2009 I am currently using 2GB of Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C5DHX on my Intel DG45ID mobo. Now i want to upgrade my RAM. i am planning to buy 4GB kit Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX which will increase my total ram to 6 GB. My question is that, Can i use 2GB kit with 4GB kit in this manner :idea: as both kit's have same specifications? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Ylennic Posted July 18, 2009 Share Posted July 18, 2009 I've got DDR3, but like you're asking, I have a 2GB and 4GB kit of identical spec'd ram. They work fine together under a P45 chipset, and G45 shouldn't be that different. If you're lucky, you'll have no problems running them at their settings, but the usual advice is if there are any problems (ie crashes/stability issues), increase your north bridge (or MCH or whatever else it's called) by a smidge, and do the same for your DIMM voltage as well. If that doesn't resolve your problems, then lowering the ram speed is the next step, although with DDR2-800, I doubt that would be necessary. There are plenty of posts by RAM Guy on what to do when running 4 DIMMs on the forums, so just take a look at some of those and that'll tell you what to do. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted July 20, 2009 Corsair Employee Share Posted July 20, 2009 You are welcome to try them at full speed but we have posted this many times in reference to mixing memory or running 4 modules. With 4 modules I would suggest setting the memory frequency at DDR667 and set the memory Voltage to 2.1 Volts and set the NB/MCH/SPP Voltage to +.2 Volts as well and test the system with http://www.memtest.org. In addition, with some MB's (Mostly ASUS) you have to disable legacy USB in the bios when running any memory test. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
