z999z3mystorys
I just ordered a 240GB Force 3 SSD to replace my 120 force (no number, so 1 I guess lol) drive. I was wondering what type of difference I might see going from a first generation force drive to the 3 with just a sata 2 connection ( the main reason I upgraded was for more space), as well as if a sata 3 PCIe card would be worthwhile, and if so, if there are any recommendations for a type (don't need raid or a ton of connections, just planning on plugging maybe two drives in there, the SSD and the 2TB storage drive.) that simply works well, no bells and whisles needed. Toasted
You won't see a difference in performance if you still leave it on a SATA II port.
z999z3mystorys
Yeah, was thinking as much, any SATA 3 PCIe adapters that one can recommend?
Turbonerfs101e
Hi z999z3mystorys Got same chipset as you X58 on a intel DX58SO2 MB But with a Marvell 9128 Sata3 controlleur I have but a pcie sata3 controller, because Marvell 9128 was not able to andle Sata3 SSD. From wath i understand Marvell 9128 chip use a pcie 1x. Mutch to slow for sata3 SSD. Get enven wost wend i do a raid 0. Intel Sata2 ICH10R was a litle bit slower but mutch mor stable, but reach maximum speed ove sata2 280MB/s Sata2 1 ssd= 280MB/s Raid 0 2 ssd 554MB/s Marvell 9128 Sata3 1 SSD 305MB/s Raid 0 2 SSD 360MB/s So to get full speed ove Sata3 SSD a have but a Highpoint 2720SGL sas/sata PCIE 8X controller. With 8 sata3, it could run with raid and non-raid just by changing firmware and could reach a maximum speed ove 2800MB/s. For the price this controller as good result. As similar produc cost more then 300$ and could go up to 1300$. Highpoint 2720SGL is 160$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115100 HighPoint Int-MS-1M4S SFF-8087 to 4 SATA is 25$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816115064 U nead 1 cable for 1 to 4 sata device and 2 cable if you put 5 to 8 drive Highpoint 2720SGL test raid with ATTO 1 ssd 536870MB/s write 573852MB/s read 2 ssd 938585MB/s write 1034931MB/s read 3 ssd 1388459MB/s write 1516957MB/s read 4 ssd 1556585MB/s write 1901586MB/s read hope this help Sincerly yours
