Ninja777
Hi I have a set of these. CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 ver7.21 and this mobo Asus P5P43TD USB3 and this cpu q9550 When I put the sticks in the mobo, and starts. It won't post, and no beep code. I have another set of 2*2gb 1600 mhz c9 kingston KHX1600C9AD3B1K2/4G and I can put those in, and it will start up, no problems here. BIOS is not the latest, it is 0401. Help me? peanutz94
Version 7.21 means the memory modules are made with 528mb IC's which your older MB will not see and why they wont post. The P43 chipset that your MB uses can only see 256mb or less IC's
Ninja777
How do you know that my mobo only supports 256mb or less IC's, could you give me a link. and thank you for the help.
peanutz94
It's a limitation of the P43chipset and should be able to be found in the white papers for your CPU. Or you could call Intl or ASUS and they would also be able to give you that information. Alternately, if you would like to wait for RamGuy to confirm this you could do that too. Ninja777
Not saying you are not right. Just wanted to know where I can find it, and I don't have any idea where to find it. So if I had got another version of these ram, I could have used it? it just needed to be 16 * 256m instead of 8 * 528m, if I am not wrong. :)

Thats exactly what you need. 256x8 double sided.
Ninja777
Oh that sucks. Is it possible to send the rams in, and get a new version ? I can't send them back to where i bought them, because they won't take them back, because i don't have the original cover. Would I be able to send them directly in to Corsair instead? peanutz94
I cant say for sure! Let RamGuy see this on Monday and he would be able to give you an answer o that.
Ninja777
•Supports 512-Mb, 1-Gb, 2-Gb DDR2 and 512-Mb, 1-Gb DDR3 DRAM technologies for x8 and x16 devices. When I look in http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/xeon/4-chipset-family-datasheet.html I can't really see that the p43, only supports 256mb chips

peanutz94
Your answer is actually your last post. Back when that board was made there were no modules larger than 2gig DDR2 and 1 gig modules of DDR3 But a 512mb module would be made from 64 x 8 IC a 1 gig module could be 64x 16 or 128 x 8. a 2 gig module could be 128 x16 or 256 x8 Your Mb would be able to see larger modules as long as they were made from no larger than 256mb IC's meaning that when they did finally have 4 gig modules they would have had to be 256 x 16 or double sided. the number of chips used , either x8 or x16 would be the " x8 or x16 devices You could always call CS and ask them if it is possible to swap them for an older version .That would be the fastest way to get this taken care of or at least get you an answer. Ninja777
Thank you. I'm being stupid. Am I wrong if I say that the 7, 8, 9.1x versions are only 2gb? Which would mean that Corsair doesn't make 256 x16 versions. And what do you mean with double sided - "256MB x16 or double sided"?
peanutz94
Which would mean that Corsair doesn't make 256 x16 versions. And what do you mean with double sided - "256MB x16 or double sided"? 256 x 16 would be double sided. 8 chips on each side of the module. They just dont use the 256mb chips anymore. They moved to the 5512mb chips a few years back and slow phased out the less dense chips.
Ninja777
Are you sure they don't use 256 chips anymore? Why would there be versions a 8.1x and 9.1x then?
peanutz94
Are you sure they don't use 256 chips anymore? Absolutely positive! Here is a post from another user with the same basic chipset family and RG's response. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=107239&highlight=256mb Originally posted by Ram Guy Unfortunately your mother is a socket 775 with the G41 chipset and the most likely cause for your incompatibility is that the memory density you can only support is a 256MB x 8 setup, whereas all our new DDR3 memory is actually 512MB x8. You’ll need to find DDR3 memory that is 256 x 8 in order for it to work with your computer, and we apologize but we don’t make DDR3 in this configuration anymore.
