nirvana_1911
I wanted to ask what mods people have done with this or the H100 cooler? As well as what fan everyone is using? I read on another forum someone used x2 Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-15's and x2 "gutted" fans (just use the frames) to make a shroud. Some people prefer a 38mm fan instead of the 25mm. The San Ace's are very loud, but know they can be turned down. I'm still thinking of what to do, I want the better performance whilst keeping it quiet also. I want to get the best of both worlds if I could.
parsec
I believe that shrouds are beneficial for several reasons, and use them on all my H-series coolers. I even use them to create a gap between the grill on the PC case and the push fan on the radiator. IMO, fans that are mounted directly on a grill have their performance degraded quite a bit. It's easy to experiment with this if your case has a fan grill on one of it's sides. Shrouds between the fan and radiator allow the air flow from the fan to disperse and create a more consistent air flow through the radiator. IMO, shrouds also reduce the overall noise level with any fan.

peanutz94
How do you make your 120mm shrouds? Cut the fan out of the frame at the four points around the edge. Where do you buy them from? How thick are they? 10mm? 25mm? Just about any good PC customization site should have them. I got mine from http://www.frozencpu.com It's 25mm think and i think it cost me less than 10 bucks if i remember correctly. Plus shipping. Old fans used as a shroud cost nothing! :) I was close...$10.99 and only 20mm thick. http://www.frozencpu.com/products/12587/ex-rad-217/Phobya_120x120x20mm_Fan_Radiator_Shroud_-_Plexi.html#blank And of course you can buy just about any size you need. Single, double...
parsec
As peanutz said, they have a few types to choose from: http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l2/g30/c429/list/p1/Liquid_Cooling-PC_Water_Cooling_Radiator_Shrouds.html IMO, they are over-priced, but are attractive and look a bit better than an empty fan frame. If you don't have fans to sacrifice, find the cheapest 120mm fan you can at any local store (MC had some for $2.99) and cut out the fan assembly with a strong wire cutter or very small saw. All you want to use is the outer frame. NOTE: Very important, you will need longer screws to mount the shrouds wherever you use them. Add one inch in screw length for each 25mm shroud made from a standard 120mm x 25mm fan. A recent thread in this forum has information about that subject: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=101292 You can't use shrouds without longer screws!
