Priddy_Boy17
I am building a computer for the first time, and i bought an ASUS M4A78T-E MOBO. I matched it up with Corsair CMX6GX3M31333C9 memory based on speed and size. However, after i received the parts, I read in the MOBO manual that it supported dual-channel memory. The RAM I bought is triple-channel, and I am not sure if it will work. Will this memory work? And why or why not? Also as stated above I am a first time builder and a noob when it comes to this so a noob explanation would be appreciated.
Wired
2 out of 3 sticks may work. Ultimately they're not tested with AMD systems, so you may want to return them for guaranteed compatible memory. Guaranteed-Compatible Memory for your Asus M4A78T-E Don't forget, get ONE kit that meets all of your needs, not two.
Priddy_Boy17
If an 8GB kit is out of my budget, but i want more than a 4GB kit, can i buy 3 sticks of 2GB that is the same? or like a 4GB kit of 2x2GB then buy another single 2GB stick of the same thing? also will only two work because the board only has a total of 8 channels and the 3rd stick would require 9 or more? Wired
You need to purchase ONE kit of 6 GB. It will be a 3 stick kit with 2 GB per kit. It is NEVER RECOMMENDED to mix modules that haven't been tested together. The board has 3 channels, not 8.
