no, you don't have to. a fan is a fan 🙂 

you can still connect the lian li controller to another PWM controller and use the MB Rpm sync button in L connect to let the corsair controller drive them.

Since the lian li controller doesn't have inputs for thermal sensors, you'll most likely have to do that since you really want the fan speed to be controlled by the water temperature.
