Air 240 Video Card WIDTH Support?

Hey,

I was browsing the Air 240 specs and it doesn't mention the width of GPU support. I read a review on Newegg where a buyer said his MSI Lightning 780 is too wide for the case and the panel would not close.

I was going to buy this case, but I am hesitant. I have a Asus DirectCU II GTX 780 which is wider than the width of the PCIe slot. From the gallery picture of Air 240, it seems the maximum width of graphics card support is the width of a PCIe slot.

Anyone would know for sure if my card would fit or not?

Thanks!

Edit:

upon further investigation, another user posted the maximum width in addition to the card is about 20mm

my card seems to be 25mm wider. (count it from the line adjacent to the SLI connectors

I posted those pictures. As hjkv pointed out, the 20mm restriction is limited to the area of the PCI bracket clamp. The clearance for the rest of the area is approximately 25mm.

Also the measurements I provided were for my specific video card PCB, which is a couple ~5mm above the PCI bracket. I can provide similar dimensions from the top of the PCI bracket so it'll be more universal.

  • 3 weeks later...

i posted this elsewhere earlier today but will add it here too as may help.

Xfx 290 with the DD cooler is 143mm wide/tall does fit in this case with a little room to spare. Could do with a window vent to keep it cool.

The case may need modding for some tall cards as the coolers may catch the side lip of the case and prevent installation.

It does for the xfx dd cooler for sure.

assembling the gpu into the mobo and very carefully guiding it all in as one does fit without modification but no good for when you need to clean the gpu heatsinks.

Is the motherboard on stand offs in your photos? I know that the difference in height may be minor, but I'm really paranoid at the moment.

I've got a MSI GTX 970 Gaming and it's 141 mm tall and I'm really unsure if it will fit in the air 240.

If the Double D is 143 I think Im good though. Do the pci power cable touch the window at all?

What card were you using in those measurements?

All these measurements are so conflicting. Top of sli plug is normally 4.38 in or 111.25 mm making the max clearance supposedly 136 ish mm. But if that double d 290 fits with extra space that puts clearance closer to 150mm. So confused.

that xfx 290 does fit with about 10mm clearance between the side panel.

and yep the standoffs are installed (they come preinstalled) and mobo is placed on them but not screwed down so what you see in the pictures is the fully installed height

Graphics cards up to 145mm will fit without touching the side panel BUT cards over 130mm may require a bit of jiggery pokery to fit which varies depending on the card and cooler shape.

do note, it catches on the back lip preventing normal installation for this particular card so motherboard has to be loosened and slid back to get the gpu in the slot or mobo and gpu assembled outside the case and very carefully inserted as one.

if you card is 145mm and under even if it catches on the back lip you can still install the card as above but also have to remove it the same way which is a pain.

for those who arent scared to mod the case taking a half inch out of the side lip will make it so cards that catch can be inserted and removed with ease for maintainance.

that case shown went to its owner who only had it delivered to me.. he managed to do his first pc build in it with the same xfx 290 dd card as mine so im double sure it fits now.
