patriotsfan82
Hi All, I have a Corsair AX1200i PSU in my PC and I recently upgraded to SLI GTX 970s. I know that 970s are fairly notorious for their coil whine, but both of my new cards produce an almost identical whine - I've tested by removing each one at a time and running them solo. I've read that a misbehaving PSU can cause other components to exhibit coil whine - With both of my cards suffering, is there anything else I should test before RMAing one or all of my products? Thanks!
StealthGaming
Many people have complained about the same noise (coil whine) on certain EVGA brand GTX 970s. So if you have a EVGA GTX 970 it's fairly common.
JKeifer
Can you swap in another power supply just to be sure that's not the culprit?
SpDFrek
GTX 970's are pretty bad when it comes to coil whine. I had 2 EVGA SSC's that were really loud and I tried them with my current AXi and the old HX it replaced. With both PSU's it was overwhelming. I used the upgrade to send them back and get a set of the FTW's. Even those still have some noise, but its not overpowering like the others. Again, using the old HX did not solve the problem. I highly doubt its the PSU.
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted February 14, 2015 Corsair Employee Share Posted February 14, 2015 Not the PSU. Video cards whine for the same reason some PSUs whine. Loose windings in coils.
