greederwow
I'm uprgrading my system from a10-6800k to fx8350. 2133 Mhz run perfectly smooth with an apu, but i know fx series cpu run up to 1866 Mhz. I'm planning to buy an Asrock 990fx Killer, but my vengeance model doesn't appear in the memory support list. Does that mean i can't use them at all? Or maybe my ram will be just underclocked to 1866 Mhz? If they're gonna be underclocked the process is automatic, or i must go through bios, and in that case what would be the correct timing setting? emissary42
Both FM2+ and AM3+ support up to DDR3-2400 memory without increasing bclk. The CPUs are specced to use up to DDR3-1866 in the same way Intel Core i7 CPUs are specced to DDR3-1600 but can actually use DDR3-2666 or 2800. The 990FX Killer should have an option in the UEFI to enable XMP support, that will set the appropriate memory ratio, timings and voltage for DDR3-2133 kits. On first boot most kits sold today will run @ DDR3-1333/1600 by default. That is why Corsair gives default SPD speed and tested speed ratings on the spec pages for the memory (tested speed is the XMP setting).
greederwow
Thank you for your exhaustive reply, seems that xmp it's a very comfortable technology. :-)
