Some feedback that might be useful to others. I experienced issues too and it appears they were related to USB ports/mobo. I had problems where sometimes the mic didn't work in wireless mode and sometimes when switching to the USB mode the sound and mic both wouldn't work. I had the USB cable/dongle plugged into a USB 2 port. I tried different USB 2 ports, I tried many different settings/drivers, all to no avail. The issues went away after I plugged the cable/dongle into a USB 3 port. Everything has been working without any issues for quite a while now. So, it seems like switching to USB 3 fixed the problems. My mobo is an ASUS P9X79.
