TomGu
Mike Clements' "Memory Upgrade Resource Guide" on the Corsair website makes reference to more memory modules placing a greater electrical load on the memory controller. His guide states "A motherboard that can overclock to a given speed with 2 modules cannot overclock to that same given speed with 4-up." It therefore seems preferable to utilize a 3 x 4GB kit instead of a 6 x 2GB kit for an i7 950 12GB system build (Asus P6x58D-E motherboard, 64-bit OS), particularly if I intend to overclock the system (which I do to 4GhZ or better). Would my chances of a successful build be greater if I reduced the system memory to 6GB in the form of a 3 X 2GB kit? Comments or suggestions appreciated.
