donpontillo
Hi guys. I'm thinking about buying new ram (if the rma won't work for the old one) is the ram in the title compatible with the: asus m4a78t-e ??? (it's powered with a phenom II x4 920 be) the ram is not into mobo qvl list but the online sellers says that it's fully compatible with am3 PCs...is that right? PS: i forgot! can you confirm they work at 1600Mhz with 1,65V ?
trackrat
The Cmp4gx3m2b1600c8 is compatible with AMD Phenom II CPUs and is rated at 1600 MHz. 8-8-8-24 2T @ 1.65V. Your CPU/System may or may not run stable with the RAM at 1600 MHz. per my signature as AMD only guarantees RAM to run at 1066 MHz. on socket AM2+ and 1333 MHz. on the AM3 socket CPUs. http://support.amd.com/us/Processor_TechDocs/46878.pdf Per my system specs above this memory runs stable on my PC at 1600 MHz. YMMV.
donpontillo
Great :) thanks! So...another question is necessary: wich are the best corsair ram for my specs? is there any 4gb kit running at 2000Mhz and 1,65v ? (even if 1333 is the official limit for am3) EDIT: dominators...they're beautiful :) do they do them only for i7, i5, i3 ?
trackrat
The link below is the current Corsair tested and approved RAM for the Phenom II systems. The highest tested and approved Corsair RAM on the list for AMD systems is 1600 MHz. Dominator memory is also available for AMD systems. The CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 is Dominator memory with cooling fins. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145303 http://www.corsair.com/products/phenomii/default.aspx This link from the Corsair FAQs shows how to read the Corsair part number to determine frequency, latency, etc. http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=80808
donpontillo
but none of those modules are approved to run under 1,68Volts, and beyond that limit the mobo (bios) sets it as "yellow" values (means too high :)
trackrat
Most higher speed DDR3 RAM requires 1.65V. The default DDR3 RAM voltage is 1.5V. The yellow symbol in the BIOS is a warning because of the default 1.5V standard for DDR3 memory. Corsair RAM such as CMP4GX3M2B1600C8 and similar run just fine at their rated 1.65V. Corsair actually tests all of their RAM before rating it. They do have RAM that runs at 1.5V if you desire that. Look for C9 latency type RAM from the Phenom II approved list and confirm the voltage. donpontillo
got it... ok...i'm "using" your patienty now :) how influences the ram performance the use of a kit made by three sticks on a dual channel mobo (like mine) ? i'm reading around the forums that one of the sticks will not take advantage of the dual channel....what does that mean? i'm asking becouse since you told me that set the voltage around 1,8 ain't that big deal, i might buy some 6gb kit.... that would be great since i use virtual machines... EDIT: but on the corsair's pdf file that talks about the choice of the ram, seems clear that using a third socket would decrease the OC possibilities....that looks right... trackrat
AMD CPUs use dual-channel memory. You can not use a triple module RAM kit on an AMD system. Those are for the Intel CPUs that offer triple-channel memory. With an AMD system you can run 1, 2 or 4 modules - purchased as one KIT, not three modules or other variations. The Corsair specified voltages for DDR3 memory is 1.5V-1.65V, not 1.8V.
