Corsair 800D Air Cooling

what if we were to put a tube between the air intake in the PSU compartment up to the 140mm fan for the primary compartment to force feed air straight into the main area of the case? That way so much of it isn't diffusing on it's way up and hitting the top of the psu compartment, and more gets into the area that matters. I've thought about what that would do to the HDD areas, but there's still that large intake under the PSU, and with stronger fans the HDD sections will still pull air into those areas.

Is this feasable? With that, and making the rear of the case an intake and adding exhause fans in the top to pull the hot air up and out, I think that'd be a winner.

This is an excellent idea. So excellent, I've decided to try it out! Here are some pics:

Here is my MB section. Notice the rear fan is reversed to an intake, and the H70 is exhaust. 2 more Scythe S-flex SDB 120 fans are mounted up top as exhausts.

Here is what I did to make the wind tunnel. Get some CD cases with plastic inserts and cut out the plastic parts, joining them with black duct tape and velcro to make the fit just right. You can't see it here, but I also mounted a Scythe S-flex SDB 140 fan to the bottom of the case. The air filter still fits fine.

With this configuration, I noticed a bit of negative pressure in the case, so I decided to cover up the open portion at the top rear of the case with a homemade filter (pantyhose + remnants of the DEMcFlex filter, which is magnetic and seen below)

Here is the end result. Doesn't look too bad! I want to try this with better materials and more time for a very sleek look.

Now, here are my idle temps. I'm very pleased with my MB temp (chipset). Reversing the rear fan to intake has done wonders. Also, note the CPU temp is fine with the H70 used as an exhaust! GPU idle temp has gone down ~5c since creating the "wind tunnel" in the lower section of the case. HDD temp is also just fine, cooler than it was before! I have a 1TB HDD + 2 64GB SSDs in RAID0.

MB: 38C

CPU: 30C

HDD: 33C

GPU: 39C

Let me know what you think! No fan controller yet, and while I can hear the fans, it's really not that loud at all. The wind tunnel does create a louder effect, but the difference in cooling totally makes up for it!

Hi guys

I've finally decided to get off my lazy behind and finish re-building my PC. I moved from a thermaltake mozart cube (worst case to work in ever!) to the Corsair 800D (best case to work in ever!)

I have a dual 120mm radiator mounted in the top "exhaust" ports pushing air in (I might add 2 more fans and do push/pull). This radiator will feed my GPU loop.

I'm also purchasing a second 1x140mm radiator for the top rear 140mm slot, again this will be bringing air into the case. This one will feed my CPU loop

What are your opinions on fans for this type of set up, I've read through the previous posts and it seems like most of the information might be outdated. I say outdated because I'm finding fans with much better performance at the moment (imHo)

In any case, these are the fans I'm looking at

1. XIGMATEK XAF-F1451 (90.3 CFM @ 18dB) Top/Rear

- Mounts in both 120mm and 140mm footprint

-My concern with this unit is, will 2 of them fit properly in the "exhaust section" side-by-side?

-Should I put in 4 and do push/pull? Does anyone have any math on performance of push/pull vs push or pull?

-Expensive!!

2. Prolimatech PRO-BV14 (87 CFM @ 18.1dB in 140mm) Top

-Half the price of the Xigmatek, slightly less CFM

3. SilenX IXP-76-18 (90 CFM @ 18dB) Rear

As you can already tell, I'm looking at the most CFM while keeping it quiet, nothing worse than hearing someone's fans on vent/skype!

I don't have the rear-mounted Radiator yet, I'm deciding between, thoughts?

1. Black Ice GTX140 - Xtreme

-my top mounted radiator is a black ice as well)

2. Koolance HX-CU1401V (Half the price when compared to Black Ice)

Since Corsair intended the top fans to be for "exhaust", there are no fan filters included. For the fan filters, I'm looking at the following:

1. DEMCiflex Magnetic Filter 3x120mm and 1x140mm

Any and all facts/suggestions/opinions welcome! and thanks for the input
