david99world
Hi, I have just a short question but will the following run together ok at 1066mhz? I just wondered if the processor would be ok for the ram to run at its full 1066. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz Socket 775 1066MHz 8MB (2x4MB(4MB per core pair)) Asus P5Q P45 Socket 775 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard Corsair 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 1066MHz/PC2-8500 XMS2 Dominator Memory Xtreme Performance Kit with Fan CL5 2.1 V ------------- I dont want to overclock it just run at the recommended speed so would the recommended speed for all of this setup combined be 1066mhz? I'm sure this is probably a stupid question :)
DerekT
You would be fine with any DRAM up to 1066. 533Mhz, 667Mhz, 800Mhz and 1066Mhz all are greater or equal to the Intel ratio of 1:1 and which is necessary to run with that CPU.
david99world
ah, thank you so much thats a real help. So I shouldnt have to overclock or anything like that to get the expected range. One question - Is that ratio worked out by the fact the FSB of the processor is 1066 which is 1:1 as the ram frequency is the same? So if I were to run the RAM at 1200mhz would this not be possible with the cpu or am I missing something?
007bont
you could, as long as you increase the fsb speed of the cpu to match up..(if you use a lower multiplier, you can remain on stock speed if you wish) you're now running a multiplier of 10 x 266 fsb = 2660 mhz if you were to change the multiplier to 8 x 333 fsb = 2660 mhz
