I need major compatibility help!

I purchased a Compaq desktop during May of last year. It's a Presario 8000. I now realize I need to upgrade my computer to run some popular video games more smoothly. I have a 3.4 ghz P4 processor, 160 GB 7200x Hard drive, 512 MB Ram, and a GeForce FX5500 already installed and working. The processor should be the same as this one:

I'm not sure which brand of a 160 GB Ultra DMA hard drive I have. I went to disk drivers and only received this information. ST3160021A, does that help at all? Someone told me it's a Seagate, but how do you figure that out? Is there a way I can obtain more information?

I have a HP DVD Writer 400c and a Samsung DVD-Rom SD-616E, 2 USB 2.0 ports on the front and 4 on the back. I also have 1 firewire port on the front and 1 on the back. I also have a standard floppy disc drive.

For network adapters, I assume for broadband cable connections, I have:

1394 Net Adapter and a Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC

I was thinking about purchasing this from Newegg.com for my ram:

TWINX1024-3200C2

I'm not sure what kind of motherboard I have. O_o What kind of motherboard would I need to run this? I'm also going to be totally replacing my current 512 MB DIMM ram with this DDR ram. I'm also considering these products, would they affect the motherboard requirement?

BASICALLY, I really want to use this ram, but I need to know what kind of motherboard is compatible with it, and the other upgrades I'm looking into.

There were like 10 different versions of 8000 Presarios.

Compaq/HP are famous for the lack of info on componet manufacturers.

Download Aida32 . It should list the make and model of your MOBO and BIOS version.

In addition it will tell you everything else about your system.
