Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted April 6, 2015 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 6, 2015 Our power supplies utilize a clear sheet of Mylar (a type of plastic) to divert intake air to where it is needed the most. We have recently found that some units manufactured in the seventh and eighth week of 2015 shipped with a Mylar sheet that is a thinner gauge than what is typically used. The result of this is the possibility for the Mylar to vibrate when air travels through the power supply. This vibration will cause a rapid tapping noise that may be undesirable to the end user. The issue has been corrected, but there are a few units that made it out into the channel. If you are experiencing a ‘tapping’ type of noise when your fan is running, please be assured that this is a known issue and that doing an RMA will most certainly resolve the issue. The PSU is still safe to use until a replacement can be provided. The following units are affected: RM550: (CP-9020053-AU) Australia/New Zealand, Lot code 15077147 (CP-9020053-CN) China, Lot code 15077148 (CP-9020053-JP) Japan, Lot code 15077149 RM650: (CP-9020054-AU) Australia/New Zealand, Lot code 15077150 (CP-9020054-CN) China, Lot code 15077151 (CP-9020054-UK) United Kingdom, Lot code 15077152 (CP-9020054-WW) Worldwide SKU (no power cord), Lot code 15077153 (CP-9020054-EU) Europe (non UK), Lot code 15077154 RM750: (CP-9020055-AU) Australia/New Zealand, Lot code 15077157 (CP-9020055-CN) China, Lot code 15077158 (CP-9020055-EU) Europe (non UK), Lot code 15077159 (CP-9020055-UK) United Kingdom, Lot code 15077160 (CP-9020055-WW) Worldwide SKU (no power cord), Lot code 15077161 RM850: (CP-9020056-AU) Australia/New Zealand, Lot code 15087126 (CP-9020056-NA) North America, Lot code 15087129 (CP-9020056-UK) United Kingdom, Lot code 15087130 (CP-9020056-WW) Worldwide SKU, Lot code 15087131 RM1000: (CP-9020062-JP) Japan, Lot code 15087138
me12456789
Hi all, I have recently bought a new PC (started using it 3 days ago), in which I have a brand new Corsair CS650M power supply. Now, from this evening on, I have exeperienced some strange noise when the fan starts turning. After a bit of investigating, I saw that just under the fan stands a transparent plastic piece. And by shaking my PSU (softly, don't worry guys) I noticed that this plastic thing was moving and making the same noise as the one the fan made while spinning. The problem is the same as described in this thread, but my PSU is not in this list. Do you Corsair guys know if there is the same problem with the CS power supply series? Now my question is : Will I void my warranty if I open the PSU just to remove or put this thing back in place?
Corsair Employee jonnyguru Posted November 18, 2015 Author Corsair Employee Share Posted November 18, 2015 Your PSU is not on the list because it is not a known issue with the CS650M. You will void your PSU's warranty if you open it, so I suggest just exchanging the whole PSU.
realloc
If it's not a known issue maybe it should be. My CS650M was sent to RMA because of this tapping noise and was replaced. The new one, installed yesterday, continues to have the same issue.
