The Corsair Raptor K40 is the newest addition to our line-up of membrane gaming keyboards. Designed to be a keyboard for the enthusiast gamer, the keyboard features 100% anti-ghosting with full N-key rollover capabilities and a reporting rate of 1000 Hz through USB. The aesthetics of the keyboard features full RGB backlight allowing for up to 16.8 million different colors for optimum customization. While full anti-ghosting is found on mechanical keyboards, it is rarely found on membrane keyboards.

What is Anti-Ghosting and why is it so important?

The Raptor K40 features a 100% anti-ghosting matrix with full N-key rollover, a feature most keyboards will not have available. This ensures every key stroke will be accurately recognized even when simultaneous combinations are inputted by the user. The term “ghosted” refers to the key strokes that are not detected and drop off (ie. pressing D-C-U and only seeing D-C while the U has been ghosted). While anti-ghosting is present in most gaming keyboards, it can be limited to a certain number of keys or sections of the keyboard. The anti-ghosting matrix would have to be pre-determined by design. Popular sections of limited anti-ghosting may include the WASD part of the keyboard as they are the most common keys to use for FPS games.  However, if a keyboard does not support full 100% anti-ghosting, then a user who remaps the keys (for example, to ESDF) may find that the same type of key combination will not work anymore due to a limited matrix. A good example where you want this feature is where you may have to press E and F together to move diagonally while keeping C depressed to stay crouched and G to toss the grenade. If the matrix was only for WASD, this combination may not work with the remapped keys. There could also be situations where certain combination of keys would work, but others would not. Q-W-E may work as a three-key combination but R-T-Y may not. Finally each key is near instant with the Raptor K40’s 1000 Hz (1ms) reporting rate.

N-Key Rollover Test:

This is a good tool we recommend to test our keyboard and any keyboard with limited rollover.

What you should see if all keys are pressed:

N-key rollover terminology simply refers to the number of simultaneous key presses that is recognized by the keyboard. Since the Raptor K40 can recognize every key being pressed at the same time, we refer to this as N-key due to no specific value being a limitation. In comparison, most membrane keyboards only support up to 2-KRO (2-Key Roll Over) which means at the very minimum, only two simultaneous key presses will be recognized. Mechanical keyboards may have a higher rollover but will only average around 6-KRO. It is a misconception that N-KRO can only be achieved through a PS/2 port as our keyboards can do so through USB without any issues. It is also important to note that N-KRO is not a maximum value but instead is a minimum guaranteed with simultaneous key presses and that the Shift, Control, and Spacebar keys do not count against this value.

RGB Backlighting + Dedicated Media Keys

The Raptor K40 features fully customizable RGB backlighting for up to 16.8 million colors through the Corsair Gaming Software. The brightness of the LED can also be adjusted through 3 different brightness levels or be turned off completely with a press of the button and each memory bank will retain 1 RGB profile.

The Raptor K40 also has dedicated media controls for your convenience without the need for silly keypress combinations.

The Raptor K40 offers everything a user would want in a keyboard. With it’s 100% anti-ghosting matrix, you can be ensured that every keystroke will be properly detected. The 1000hz (1ms) response rate will also ensure each keystroke has no input lag at all for quick and accurate key presses. This is especially important for gaming where a single keystroke can mean life or death.

The RGB backlighting is also a nice addition to those that will want it to match the rest of their system. Yes, it  is not a mechanical keyboard but it does have all the features of one. It’s also quieter which makes it a great keyboard to use in the office too if you have co-workers in close proximity. Finally, like all of our keyboards, you can rest easy knowing the K40 comes with a 2-year warranty.
