Aye Posted May 7, 2016 Share Posted May 7, 2016 I was reading this article that states write performance significantly drops as you fill up a SSD drive. The article recommends leaving 25% of your drive space free. I have a GTX Neutron 240GB (223GB available). So according to the article, I should leave 55.75 GB free. c-attack Posted May 8, 2016 Share Posted May 8, 2016 Yes, this is generally true and the article is fairly thorough in it's explanation of why this is true of solid state drives and not the mechanical variety. I wouldn't get too caught up on the percentages. 23% vs 25% free space is not likely to matter, although there are quite a few very detailed tests for some of the common SSD's (or their controllers). I usually reserve 20%. It does make you feel like someone took a bite out of your new toy and it does make 128GB drives a lot less useful for large file storage like games. It is part of the reason I have two 1TB drives now. Playing shuffle between multiple 256GB drives was a pain. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
