There still is no hardware playback with iCUE and for reasons I don't entirely understand, it forces the spiral rainbow on you (or blackout) in the absence of a software control signal. If you need to go without the software, the way to do this for the moment is to install Link instead, set your colors, exit and set it not to run in the taskbar/start-up. That will allow you to keep whatever was set last (temp dependent patterns will not work) and also allow you to run CUE 2.24.50 if you have keyboard/mouse things to do.
