Frenchie_QC
Just bought my PC fully assembled. I've installed Corsair LINK2 v2.3.4816 as I wished to control my fans better. Corsair Hydro USB v2.0.0 Corsair H80i v1.0.4 So like title says, my H80i is noisy. It's my first liquid cooler, I don't know if it's a fan or pump noise. No clicking or grinding sounds here, just 3 times noisier than my noisy laptop. I've not been able to see my 3 Corsair chassis fans with LINK2 in order to disable them to see if they were the source of the noise. Instead, I physically unplugged them one by one, no change. Then I fully unplugged my H80i, BOOM, my PC is dead silent. I saw this post about firmware update: http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=115836 Should this update fix my noise problem ? If yes, how exactly ? (I'm a noob) Just to say, I've also saw this 17 pages thread that ends with "issue solved": http://forum.corsair.com/v3/showthread.php?t=107252&page=17 Thanks

ccaution
Can you tell whether it's the unit itself (pump) or the fans spinning, that makes the noise? :)
Frenchie_QC
Can you tell whether it's the unit itself (pump) or the fans spinning, that makes the noise? :) I've used a wooden stick as a stethoscope, and now it's clear that the pump is NOT faulty. The noise is definitely coming from the fans.
steveliddle
using the hydro 80i, been dead quiet and noticed that the util I have installed was the asus gpu one so installed the link software and noticed the fans default was 2000 rpm have moved the fans around the image of the case and now know which fan is which click on the fan image and on the RHS a config panel should pop open flicked both fans to performance mode, the CPU temp has dropped from 31C to 23C and the fans are at an identical speed of about 1700 in quiet mode for stuff like browsing, the fans are about 900, not balanced and the cpu is about 24c, default and quiet mode seem virtually the same http://thumbsnap.com/i/0ObFvD4Y.jpg http://thumbsnap.com/i/kxPkM8v8.jpg hope this helps ? Thanks, but I've already played with all the possible settings within LINK2 to adjust fan speed. The fans are loud even in quiet mode. I also tried with the "monitor" function of my BIOS. Q-Fan enabled/disabled, standard, silent, turbo and manual modes.
steveliddle
are the fans pushing into the case or out of the case ? recall my fans are both black sticker facing out of the case and the silver / black sticker facing in are yours the same and both facing the same direction and not say the 2 black stickers facing each other ? st01tz
I found that the fans needed to fall under 700-800 rpm to be near silent. Even at 1000-1100 under the "quiet" mode I could still hear a slight whirring from the fans. Try setting up a custom curve with the rpm set to 600 for anything close to idle temperatures and see if that changes things.

I've set a fixed RPM for both fans, as low as 200 RPM, just for sound testing purposes. They won't go under 480 RPM anyway. I've also set a divider of SIX for the pump, making it run at 716 RPM The same noise still occurs. And i'm sure its not my GPU's 1050 minimum RPM or any other component that makes that noise because my PC was dead silent without the H80i

Bryman
Changing the divider won't change the speed of the pump only what it appears... And newer firmware very well good fix the noise problem :) the newest is 1.0.

And newer firmware very well good fix the noise problem :) the newest is 1.0.5 Ok, just installed v1.0.5 & rebooted. Still noisy. But maybe i'm wrong with the origin of the noise. Maybe a wooden stick used as a stethoscope is not as accurate as i thought. Playing with fans speeds with my ear on them makes me think they are maybe not the cause of the noise, but i can't be sure as long as i can't compare with anything similar. The sound looks like it comes from the unit itself, something like liquid circulating thru the radiator... But the pump is in the little black box on the top of the CPU, right ? Is there something in the radiator that can make noise ? My next step is to unplug only the 2 unit's fans. And next to that is to install OEM heat sink & fan and return the H80i to the vendor...
