    the most affordable solution would be to use Asus AI suite yep. The fan drivers (the chips) are very sturdy on motherboards so they should support the rated 1A per output. And as you assumed, iCUE does not control these.

    Over my lunch I went ahead and moved 2 fans to the CHA2 and CHA3 inputs on the motherboard. It turns out Asus lets you set the curves in the BIOS, but since I don't know what temp sensors drive the chassis fans, I just pegged them at 60% output (which would be 800 - 900 rpm). That's where my iCue chassis fans normally stay, even under heavy load. So I've still got the 3 radiator fans hooked to the CoPro, along with my front top and front mid fans which blow air across the motherboard/GPU. The bottom and back fans are driving off the motherboard now, and those will have the least impact on case temps out of the 7, so they can be set-it-and-forget-it.

    1) Officially splitters are not supported at all, so you need another controller. 
     

    2) Not directly with DC fans. 
     

    3) There are a few odd powered DC fan splitter/hubs out there but the easiest solution would be to send a single fan to the MB for control. Any kind of DC hub is probably going to have a 5/7/12v switch for low/med/high speeds. I would say the mb is a better option and free. Pick whichever fan is least critical to airflow (bottom front, top-front?) for your configuration and give a low speed curve that won’t jump around too much. Although now I guess you need to find a place for two fans  


    Seven is also hard for rgb control. Did you get a 3rd party splitter for that as well or two controllers? A final option would be to replace two of the SP-Pro fans with SP/ML elite that are also 8 LED and identical for RGB, but PWM motors instead. That seems a bit extreme unless there is another reason for doing that. 
     

     

    Yeah, I was afraid of that. I have an ASUS Crosshair VIII Hero (wifi) and I can probably find 2 fan hookups, but then I assume I'd lose the ability to control the fan speed through iCue, though I could keep the RGB at least. Probably have to download Asus's fan control software. 

    Now just to double check this, I do have an H150i RGB Pro XT AIO, but I'm not using the fan hookups from that as I was told they aren't compatible with the iCUE SP120 RGB PRO fans. Is that correct?

    Also, someone else asked if I was splitting the RGB and the answer to that is "No." I have 2 RGB hubs as to get to 7 fans I bought 2 3-packs which each come with the RGB hub.

  3. I've got 7 fans (iCUE SP120 RGB PRO), and 1 Commander Pro. I had 2 tied to a single port with a splitter, and then today that port stopped working. I've since read a couple posts that this can cause ports to fail. Good to know. So here are the questions.

    1. What is the accepted way to get 7 fans working in iCue. 2 Commanders? That's a little impractical.

    2. Is there a way to safely use splitters with the  Commander Pro that would give you a good shot at not killing a port?

    3. Is there a special type of splitter I might use with these fans to get this to work?

  4. You need to hold down CTRL and click drag over the the fans you want to select or de-select. This can be done with the box or one LED at a time. If you don't hold down CTRL, it will remove all effects from the field the first time you normal left click. Apply lighting effect 1 to fans 1-2-3. Select lighting effect 2 and apply where needed.

     

    Also, new CUE 4 has a very obvious Fan 1, Fan 2, Fan 3... quick application to do the same thing. CTRL drag still works as well.

     

    CTRL-select didn't work. Even with only 2 selected, I would get all 6 fans or none at all reflecting the lighting choices.

  5. Why can't iCue be intuitive? I have 6 fans; 3 front, 2 top (radiator), 1 back. What I would like is to have the 3 on front using the Lighting Link Color Pulse, and the 2 on top and 1 in back to have a static color. All 6 are linked to a lighting node core and Commander Pro.

     

    From trying this myself, I've only been able to get all 6 fans to do one or the other. I would think this is possible.

    That looks like some OCP trip from the PSU or something of that nature, but it would help knowing what's in the build.

    do you overclock anything or run completely stock?

     

    5900x w/ Aus crosshair viii hero wifi - no OC

    32GB RAM (still at 2133, will put it at 3600 in a week or so if the system is otherwise stable)

    EVGA 3080 FTW3 - no OC

    EVGA 750W PSU (modular)

     

    I have the pump set at "Balanced"

    Idle temps seem to be 30-40C (coolant at 30C), load has been 50-60C (coolant at 35-40C).

    6 fans - 3 in front, 1 in back, 2 on the radiator. The radiator fans run between 850 rpm up to 1500 rpm at load, and the chassis fans usually go from 700 to 1250. The 2 groups key off the AIO coolant and GFX card respectively. There is enough air getting moved by those 3 front fans I'm not concerned with the ambient getting too high.

     

    Maybe it was just a blip or loose wire, because I have more than enough power and none of those temps seem concerning.

     

    I also had it on all day long today just streaming music while I was working. No issues.

     

    UPDATE: Under normal gaming load I do see the CPU spike to 65 or 70, but it doesn't stay there long. Also, it's my understanding that those temps aren't that out of the ordinary for the 5000 series.

  7. I finished my new build over the weekend. It uses a 5900X and 3080 (no scalpers involved), and I used the H100i RGB Pro XT for cooling. I've had no problems with the system, except that while I was playing some Destiny 2 yesterday (not a particularly taxing game), quite suddenly, the PC shut off. I don't mean Windows shutdown, I mean the power just went off. Everything started up fine, and didn't have any issues the rest of the day.

     

    My question is, when iCue does an "Emergency Shutdown," is that what it looks like, or is it a "Windows is shutting down...." event like a normal shutdown? I am quite certain that I didn't hit 70C on my coolant, so it would have been a false reading from a sensor that did it, if it were iCue at all.

  8. If the SP on the case are also SP-Pro, then that will work. If they are old style SP-RGB (4 LEDs), I am not sure they will work when mixed. The original SP-RGB fans were different than all the rest.

     

    If you have a Commander Pro, that will work for fan control for DC fans. You will be able to access H100i Temp from the Commander or use one of the temp probes from the Commander to measure radiator exhaust temp. That will be similar to coolant temp but still work without the software running. I suggest not using CPU temp for fan control at all. It has no connection to what the fans are trying to do and on any CPU made after 2016, it will take you on a roller coaster ride with each click of the mouse. Regardless, CPU temp is a sensor choice on the Commander Pro.

     

    Yes. All 6 are brand new SP120 RGB Pro (2 3-fan packs, so I have an RGB hub I won't end up using).

     

    Thanks for all the info. Sounds like I can do what I want to do. I'll look into using the temp probes effectively.

  9. The fan controller on the XT and most other AIOs is PWM only. The SP-Pro are 3 pin DC fans. You will need to connect them to the motherboard or another DC capable fan controller. On the XT, they will run at 100% all the time and be uncontrollable.

     

    Should I just connect the SP120 fans on the H100i to the Commander unit along with the other 4 SP120s that are mounted around the case? Also, will I be able to still have fans speed up and slow down as a reaction to the CPU temperature, or is that something I sacrifice by not using the fans which come with the H100i and connect to the block?

  10. I am putting together a new system and have purchased an H100i RGB Pro XT for the CPU cooler, but have swapped out the included fans for 2 SP120 RGP Pro fans that I have as extras from the rest of the case build.

     

    What should I do about hooking the fans up as far as their RGB and fan connectors? Should I hook them to the cooling block inputs, or to the RGB hub and Commander like the other fans? Or some combination of the two?

     

    My current system is quite old and is running an H100i from 2013, so my experience is only with Corsair Link. If there are pros and cons to any of the configurations I mentioned, please outline those as well.
