Changing pump RPM?

Nosty

Recommended Posts

So i recently gotten a H110i installed in my system, very good temperatures, definately no complaining there, but the noise, oh my god the noise.

I've changed the fans to noctuas, which made a huge difference, but this excessive 'whiny' noise coming from the pump itself stayed.

Link did not allow me to change it to a lower rpm (these high default rpm's are so unnecesary tbh, both quiet mode & performance are extremely high even for good overclocks). The high pitched whine (i am pretty sensitive to sounds though, i must admit) coming from both modes drove me nuts.

The only solution i've found is trough a user created tool i found on the forums here, SiV - of which the custom fan curve did not work, but the fixed rpm mode did - it allowed me to set the pump to what i think is more than adequate, (and removed the super annoying noise) - 1800rpm.

Now the tldr; of this post, will this cause damage to the pump? Are these pumps specificially designed to only run at 2300 (quiet -.-) and 2800 (performance) rpm? Or will my setting work just fine?

SiV - of which the custom fan curve did not work?

I suspect there may be either a firmware bug or feature as controlling the pump is identical to controlling a fan and it works for a fan, but not a pump. Maybe I will implement the custom curve in software as I do for PSUs and Asetek coolers.

The pump speeds possible on my H110iGT are as below.

Hm alright, thank you for the amazing software btw! i'm so happy i could fix this without having to rma.

Maybe you could give your opinion on wether or not this damages the pump though?

Only Corsair can specify this. I have tried to get Corsair to do this with no luck. One instance is http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=815375.

When I first added PSU + Asetek cooler speed control Corsair were quite concerned about this, but in the end I worked with Corsair Dustin to run some tests and then they were OK about this and he posted http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=816945. I can't tell you why they were concerned as this information is NDA. They never expressed any concerns about CoolIT cooler or CL Mini speed control.

The real problem is that as far as I can tell Corsair don't publish specifications. I can't even find the MTBF for my H100iGT :(:.

I just wish Corsair would fix the firmware bugs that have been outstanding since 20-Nov-2014 as I can't write my own firmware, see the links in http://forum.corsair.com/forums/showthread.php?p=851701.
